I have have a question...... I was reading some posts and saw WOOG mentioned to make sure you have lots of measurements before demo. I did a bunch for stringers, transom, bulkheads but not for the deck. I did (I hope) a good job of supporting the hull off the trailer but worried now things aren’t going to be “square “ going back in? Nothing has moved around. Just the hull flexing when I’m working on there. Cap never came off. Should I be worried?
Please help ease my anxiety
thanks
Dezi

I wonder where that came from..... Im not to worried because me and you did not pull our caps. The only thing I would be worried about is if when you built your supports if the hull moved in any. When i built mine i basically butted it against the hull then gave it slight nudge for contact to keep the natural hull shape. But i could be wrong as this is my first time too.

That's what I figured.. I built the cradle pretty strong to hold the outer chines about 4' long at the stern and have supports up front. Boat hasn't budged at all from where it was placed. Only thing moving was the flexing from my fat a$$ walking in it :)

If the cap is on, you're fine. my only comment would be to try to make sure the boat is reasonably level (if your in your garage, and its centered pretty well on the trailer, you will be fine). Odds are, when it goes back together, your boat is going to be a 1/4" off here, 1/8" off there, but its not going to be enough to affect anything other than your OCD. Carry on!

Well got all my wiring, sub panel, switches, lights and plugs picked up last night. Will be wiring the garage this weekend to get heat and better hydro out there to FINALLY move forward with getting some new plywood cut and glassed into the boat. Been taking too long :( But it will be nice and warm in there this winter to get all the work done...

You talking about getting your work space set up makes me realize how much I've been dragging when it comes to doing the same for myself. I need to get back on that - been so unmotivated lately for some reason.

Ya I hear ya. I have been soooool lazy lately. Working 10 hour days I just wanna come home and sit on my a$$ and do nothing. Finally decided I need to get moving. The list isn’t getting any shorter :( Once it’s warm in there I will be much happier and will have more motivation to get moving again.

Well hydro is in and all working good ;) got another bit of fillers and glass in this week. Also picked up a bunch of chip brushes, mixing sticks, rollers etc so this weekend I hope to be do some work with the transom. Question for you glass guys. As you k ow I’m using epoxy. Is my process correct?

cut transom pcs
glue and screw with titebond III
rough cut key hole
coat both sides with resin only
pb transom to hull and clamp
pb fillet
tab
lay glass to final thickness needed

that’s the plan anyways. Pics to come :)

Sounds right to me. Use enuf PB so it will ooze out around the edges and use the ooze out to make your fillets. DON'T apply to much clamping pressure. Just enuf to ensure a good bond. To much pressure will Starve the joint of PB.

Gotcha :) thanks. I figured I would make the keyhole smaller and get the proper size template since I have the MC1 and the boat had a bigger cutout with the drive that it originally came with. Once I have the proper cutout I can glass the original cutout on the hull to match the plywood cutout. I hope 🤞

Well good news I think :) found me a donor
bost with a 3.0 mercruiser and drive :) it’s in a glastron bow rider. Couldn’t pass up on the price. Comes with a trailer too. So I will be able to swap motors and sell my drive and engine and a few other things and make my money back and then some for a few goodies and bling for my project. Picking it up this weekend. Will get some pics for ya all to see.

Well Got the hydro in, lights and plugs hooked up and I'm still alive ;)

These guys should keep me nice and warm over the winter to get stuff done :)

Tonight I was able to get the transom pieces cut out and glued and screwed

Tomorrow I will sand and fill any small voids or imperfections in the plywood then sand again and one more coat of epoxy before I get ready to install :) Woot woot!!! Can't wait to see the new stuff going back in.

Oh ya and I found a local shop that has a bunch of key hole templates and drill fixtures. Since the guy that I was going to get the donor boat from backed out, I will use my engine and drive. I know they are in good shape since we did a bunch of work on them a couple years ago. I am going to go and pick some of the fixtures up next week. I will have the MC-1 and the alpha ones. I have a buddy that has a CNC mill and I plan to make duplicates of these. I want to be able to share these fixtures with all you guys if you need them. Kinda a thank you for all your help with my restore. Maybe we can all work together with ideas as I model them in solid works before they go to the machine shop.

Thoughts?

See ya tomorrow :)

I'd be interested to see what they look like, I am a mechanical engineer and we make cut templates for blow molding production and injection molding trimming. I have an idea how it could be made cheap and easy to use with drill and router.

I can sketch up some drawings and dimensions and stuff if ya like :) Solidworks. Let me know what version you would prefer. I think if we made a couple of these different models, we could pass them around to the forum members that need them. Just thinking to help the community out :) The guy I am getting these from said he has a bunch at the shop as well as some older ones back at the farm. He is gonna bring them in and give me a call. I can take what I want to find which one will work for me. Might as well model them up so we have them.

I love the router idea :)

The top holes are different.. Bottom and mid ones are the same. I thought the MC-1 was narrow as well by about 1/2" ? No?
