I bought a new heavy duty singer. Just buy extra bobbins. I got mine in china cheap. Just got to wait on customs to fool around getting them.

Quick check in. Going good today so far. All suited up and been grinding since 9 this morning. Gone through the hull in a couple spots CRAP!!!!!!!! But going good. Getting smoothed out and getting to good glass. Nice to have today and tomorrow off to work on the boat

Yeah, the 99K is a very Small Throated machine and NOT very powerfull. I'd stay away.

The Three "Home" machines that I am confident will do the work are..

1945 and later Singer Model 66 "Godzilla" Machines. So called do to their Industrial Crinkle Gray finish. Also Distinctive WHITE Reverse Lever.

1950-56 Singer Model 15-91 Potted Motor Machines. I have 2 of em

1945-1955 Singer Model 201 and 201-2. These machines were actually used by RollsRoyce to sew their interiors with in the War Years. VERY heavy duty and almost totally maintenance free. Even today a 201-2 in Excellent condition will bring $250+. Even one in Poor Visual condition will sew like a new one. They are almost Bulletproof and just won't wear out.
Hard to find though. I've been looking for a Long time and won't pay more than $100 for one. It'll probably never happen unless I get real Lucky

Sooo based on this I'd look for the 15-91 cuz they're plentiful and Cheap. They too are almost maintenance free except for the potted motor.. Make sure it runs and is SMOKE free. Running it for 15 seconds at full speed will tell you if the motor is good. No smoke or slow down and it's a winner!!!

Hahahahah. Thanks wow what a pile of grinding. Not sure if I’m overdoing it or not. Do I need to take the gelcoat off in the ski locker if I plan to just cover it up and fill with foam? I’ve been working on where the stringers were as well as any highs that I come across. Also taking the lip off where the deck was. So what has everyone else done when they are grinding? Are you going right down to the heavy weave at the hull? Are you cleaning up where you will be installing your stringers, bulkheads and deck? Let’s hear from everyone please. I do t want to grind for nothing. I’ve already had enough of the itchy’s

Me as well Scott. But I have also been grinding every square inch of the bottom of the hull. Don’t think I need to really. But I also have never done this before so want
to get advice from the experts I have the channels almost ground down for stringers, all the lip is pretty well gone and ready for the deck to butt up to, transom is all ground and flat. And I have been working on clean up if the old glue and a light grind for tabbing. I know I will have more to do but was hoping if the areas that need new glass are almost done, then I can grind the higher areas after the deck is in?

Well a busy 2 days this weekend getting itchy Did a lot of grinding to get the hull prepped for transom and stringers...













Wow what a ton of glass in there.. I ground and ground and ground some more.. Made a ton of a mess.. I know for sure, the advice on here to use filter bags in your shop vac really does work!!!!!! Went through 15 - 24grit and at least 10 36 grit sanding discs... Also used up a couple blades for the oscillating tool... Did good work though.... Not too much in the way of dry or delam glass though which was really nice

Then I got the boy to come and help clean it all up. He really wanted to see how hot it was in a suit and all geared up.. It was hot!







Took the afternoon to clean up the 21Gal gas tank. Even though I won't see it once it is covered by the deck, I wanted to make sure it was cleaned up a bit Going to put a new sending unit in as well. Don't see any cracks or holes. Never had leaks before but I will pressure test it to be safe.





And after a good scrubbing....




Well this week will be ordering plywood and first batch of eeeeeeepoxy and glass.... Going to do up the transom, bulkheads and stringers.. I plan to add 1 or 2 more bulkheads since I will be eliminating the ski locker.. Want to have a nice stiff deck when all is done. Also I need to plan out my chasers for mt center console.

Well 10 gallons of eeeeeeepoxy resin ordered and 20 yards of 17oz biax cloth with no backing. Also picking up 2 sheets of Douglas fir 3/4” good one side plywood this week. That should keep me busy for a little while

Question for you fibreglass guys. Can I use 18oz woven roving for my layups instead of the 17oz biax?

yup but...With Poly resin you must ALWAYS use CSM. The 1708 has the CSM stitched to it. Woven Roving does not. 1708 is actually stronger than the WR. Why are you wanting to use the WR? It's a LOT harder to install and uses a lot more Resin.
