Man, you are zooming along! I'm gonna follow this one! Keep up the great work! Really cool to see your son out there with you.

Ya so for it has been a blast!!!! Little bit of itchy's but not too bad yet... The boy is really enjoying it and every night I get home from work he is always asking " We gonna work on the boat tonight dad?" You don't get many of the chances to do things with your kids. Get them while you can.. They grow up wwwwaaaaaayyyyy too fast :(

Well more work done yesterday and today on the boat... Got some more of the front torn out.. Also finally got to pull the gas tank...

Got all the gas drained mostly before I pulled the tank which was nice.. Made it a lot easier to get out...

Tried to make a support for the front.. I think it will work but not really happy with it.... I will let you guys decide...

I may decide to re do it this weekend.. Not sure.... If it does work the way it is, I will get some more keel supports under at the back as per recommendation for you guys and then see if I can get the rest of the wood out and start at the stringers and transom... Keep ya all posted!!!

P.S. What do you think a center console would look like??

build a cradle for the forward section of the bow, then tie them all together, then rip out the rotten stringers.

I built my last cradle on the trailer the boat sat on.

Hey Scott.. Can you point me in the direction of where I might see some of your photos of your cradle?

I dont have any of the cradle and a few of the ones that I had of the resto were lost when webshots folded up about 10 years ago

the cradle was plywood and 2x4's the plywood was cut to match the hull on a 16-1/2' boat, I had 5 pieces of plywood and a few 2x4's

No prob Scott.. I think I may try some cradle supports with Plywood this weekend... Or do I need them?? I dunno.. Gonna make sure it is sturdy and won't rock or twist when I am in it working :) I want to get back in and tear away at it so I can start to grind away and get into putting new back in :) If I can have all the demo work and grinding done before the snow starts, that will allow me lot's of time to glass and install new over the winter...

Going to try to convince the wife to get a older sewing machine and help with some of the upholstery work... Fingers crossed she will help ;)

Looks like you are having fun! I agree with Scott, tie your supports together, as close as you can towards the top.

hahahahahhaha ya I hear ya on the admiral helping out... She usually pops her head out in the shop to make sure I didn't cut my hand off or knock myself out with something stupid.. She does love to fish and go on the boat though... Sometimes when she is setting the hook, I fear she is going to pull the mouth right off the fish!!!! She has fun though and that is what matters :) Happy Wife........ Happy Life!

In my case, I don’t fear the frying pan as long as we share it’s use. I have a strategy to get the admiral involved in my upholstery. I am very fortunate that she has always been supportive of my projects and has even encouraged some. “ Aren’t you going to stop and look at that _____?”. I have very little sewing experience but want to give it a shot. Someone gave me two boat bucket seats with the old covers for patterns. I have purchased my own sewing machine so as to not mess with hers.
When we talk about sewing the upholstery, my lack of knowledge and experience is very apparent but I don’t shy away. I know that when I start, my inexperience will drive her nuts and she will jump in and help me and quite possibly do it all for me. She just doesn’t know it yet.:)

Well another successful weekend :) Got a fair bit of work done.. Removed the rest of the wood from the front bow boxes.. I am going to keep the small one at the very front as it is not attached to the deck or stringers. This should help keep it more stable as well inside.. Cut the rest of the deck out except about an inch or so on the sides to help me get my new pattern for the new one.

A little bit of foam to clean up at the bow but no biggie. I pick at it when I having a little break :)

Got the floor done. Pulled most of the foam out and lot's of water at the bottom.. It weighed a fair bit!!! All you newbies out there.... Don't just look at the surface and think it's ok. Dig to the bottom and then decide..

More pics next post........

wire cup brush on a drill extension chucked in a cordless drill makes a great foam removal tool

Question for you Bayliner guys.. At the back on each side of the boat there are these boards that were attached... Anyone know why???

Anywho, today I was able to clean things up a bit and add more to the trailer.... I also got the rotten transom out. Wen't really good.. Took my time cutting and chiseling out the rotten junk in there. There is a total of 1.5" of core between the fiberglass on the transom. I was able to split the 2 sheets apart.. No wonder though, they barely used enough glue on there to help them together!!!! No surprise though....

Wife brought me drinks today as well :) Mai Tai's. Yum Yum

The Rot was pretty bad at the bottom.. I could stick my finger right in there no problem..

And she is all out.. Just need a little clean up and it will be ready for the new to go in....

Most of the pile that came out...

Any feedback or suggestions would be great.. I believe I need to be pulling the strings next and then the grrrrrinding begins.. Put new stringers in, transom, then floor right??? In that order?? Or is it transom then stringers?

And last pic was one I found online.. I really like the layout of the bow... I may try something similar to this. We will see...

If I did decide on a center console, I would imagine I would need to switch to a hydraulic steering? Or how would one run the cables to the back????

Thanks again everyone!! Hope you enjoy this so far

Looking better and better, man... Great progress!

Am I reading those pics correctly - were both the port and starboard bow seating filled with foam, instead of being hollow for storage???

And yeah - I was already gonna rip out and replace the deck on mine, but the more I see from everyone else's reno, the more terrified of what I'm gonna find when I get down to the foam :yell:

Those boards are most likely 8nstalled so when you got through hull fittings they would have some backing, also could have been because of trailer guides land there on a good bit of trailers so they beafed it up just guesses

As far as steering goes they have assemblys that work for a cc , most likely the cable would aim down , in that case most folks use a 2 inch pipe with sweep to get it back where it needs to go , can put sqeeps on both ends , you probebly would want to run from center to starboard side corner then sweep at a angle towards termination point to minimise

Yep they were both filled with foam. Was weird though because they booth had the gel oat in them. Maybe a mistake?

Don’t know if I will be putting foam back up there. I am eliminating the ski locker so foam will be going there. Also the little amount of gobs they used under the deck will be filled properly this time. Will be much better than factory.
