Chris questioned if you were “relocating the transom “
pretty sure it was still at the stern 😆

Hey Everyone :)

Well I think (HOPE) that I finished my last layers of glass on the transom to get my at least 2" thickness tonight...

STUPID BUBBLES :(

I tried to work it out all ways I could.. Then figured screw it, it's in an area of no concern for mounting anything.... I will grind it out when it dries and put some filler in it and then block sand the whole transom to make sure it's nice and flat and smooth...

Then this new toy arrived in the mail today ;)

Second pic I wanted to show you how big this bit is. I'm a little afraid of it. But it will do a nice job. 1" Radius Round over bit. Pics will come this weekend when I use it ;)

Thhhhheeeeeeennnnnn while at work today, I was talking with a co worked that his family used to be in the boating industry/business most of his life and he said "why don't you build a cool side console instead of a center console?" I would have more walking room to get to the front of the boat.. MAN why do people have to mess with my head :( Off to Google I went looking at pic's. I think I will stick to the CC though.

K I'll be back later with more updates.

Hey Everyone.... Been busy at work and not too much time on the boat. I did however stay after work today so I could do a compression test on the motor to make sure I wasn't doing all this for nothing ;)

Did Dry first and here is what I got...

Then sprayed some oil in all cylinders and did it wet and.....

Not really found of #2 Cylinder.....

But the boat was never in the water last summer and was out of the water around August the year before. I don't know if that makes much a difference or not?

Would love to get some opinions please.... I have posted this as well in the Mercruiser section to get the Engine guys opinions as well that don't frequent this area. I hope that's ok..

Thanks all. Oh ya.. Center Console.. I started a new one BUT I might be able to make the original one work. Will get you some updates and photo's later on.

You could do a cylinder leak test to get a better idea of why #2 & #3 are lower. Looks like 130 psi Dry and 150 psi wet are your normal #'s

Thanks Guys. Will run her as is for now. Plan might be to tear it apart next fall/winter and check it over. Just because ;)

Have a question Scott Danforth Why is it you do the test with throttle wide open? Air movement? Just curious as I don't understand why :(

Yes, as Red said. If the throttle is closed, there will be much less air pulled into the cylinders and thus a lower compression reading. In reality, it might amount to about 10 psi lower.

Ahhh. I see now. I did as I was told to do. Just wanted to know why :)

could be the rings, could be carbonation and pitting at the valve seats. Since it was standing for a while, may be best to run her and check later in the season if these values improve.

Thanks Chis. I thought about that as well. Was thinking of giving her a little drink of Seafoam as well before I fire it up. To clean things out a bit. Don’t know if that will help or not.

it helps the pocket books of people selling seafoam

hahahaahahah Gotcha Scott Danforth I will keep the $$$ and use it elsewhere... ;) Probably a good idea to get rid of the Champion Spark plugs in there. Not sure what to replace with though?? Any ideas? I don't mind spending the $$$ as these kinda are important.

Oh ya and good news :) I am able to save the original design of the center console. Just need to make a couple of mods and everything will fit just fine :). Just playing around with some Drawings and will get some cardboard templates made up and take pics. Will post soon. This console is gonna look sweeeeeeeeeeet!

ok as a 3.0 guy i will tell you what to do , dont be scared:) there is a old bon ami trick where you mix a bit of bon ami into some trans fluid or marvel mystery oil at around 2500 rpm you start dripping a lil into the carb it will smoke but what this does is reset the rings , gm had a bulletin in 1957 that described the procedure, and cat did it with diesel engines for years, after you do this check the compression you will notice a change for the better most times , also 150 psi is what all of the good mercury 3.0 i have tested had and that equates to a 9.5 compression ratio . the bon ami trick is a last resort of sorts but could work for you , if worried just change oil after .

Neet trick . . . sort of like a fine sand blasting of the cylinders. I assume it would also clean up the valves a bit :noidea:
