Re: Cheaper to shoot my AK than my 22LR

My local store still has a pretty good selection on the bulk packs of .22. $31 for a box of 550.

For a while it was cheaper and easier to shoot and reload for my AR.

I hope to have my 9mm AR completed by spring. I have a rather large stock pile of 9mm at the moment.

I need to get out and PEW PEW PEW! Lol

Actually easier than you think. I've probably bought better than 2000 rounds since last week from Cabelas. Just ordered a box of 1000 M-1 yesterday but there is a secret on how to do it. The M-1 box of 1000 wasn't but $49.99. Have not been paying more than $28 shipped for a brick of 500. There is a back door with Cabelas that gets one first in line before it hits the website.

I shoot my modified Mosin Nagant (shortened, muzzle break, pro mag stock) for .18-.20/ round. 7.62x54R.

The bad part is that I just purchased a 1927 M1 Thompson (Tommy Gun). That shoots .45ACP.....not going to be nearly as cheap....

If you reload your own ammo (22 excluded) and even mold your own bullets, you can shoot reasonably cheap. It cost only the price of primers and bulk powder. Of course you need to enjoy the reloading time involved too or it becomes a job... :D

I have noticed that 22 has gotten back to a "normal" price, well it never goes back to normal it is about $10 more than it was before. With that said people must have 10,000 rounds on hand because they are always sold out.

I just bought 1440 rounds of 7.62x39 for $179.99 to feed the SKS's
I also got a 1200 round crate of 7.62x54 to feed my SVT-40's and Mosins.
Ammo has never been cheaper.

I reload and can shoot .223 and 9mm for less than $0.20 a round.

Ordered a brick of CCI Blazer for $40 this morning shipped. First time in months I've found any. Unless I wanted to pay $70 for a brick at a gun show.

Re: Cheaper to shoot my AK than my 22LR

Just received a flyer from Cabelas, they have 300 rds PMC-FMJ 55 grain .223/5.56 ammo with a dry box on sale for $119.99 today, suppose to have several dozens of boxes available in all of their stores today and today only.

Item #02818810

In their regular monthly flyer, they also have two models of AR-15 on sale, one is on sale for $599.00 and the Bushmaster Carbon Fiber is on sale for $749.99 includes the red dot scope.

I bought a brick of Blazer 22lr for $21.99 a few weeks ago on Cabelas website and had it shipped to store for free. Walmart up the road had 50 round boxes for $2.47 a few days ago but it was limit 3. It is out there.

That Bushmaster is just a polymer lower like New Frontier sells. You can build one for around $500 and add the $50 red dot. My buddy has a local gun shop and is selling Aero stripped lowers for $60.

Yeah, I should have has it shipped to the store, but Cabelas is a bit of a drive for me so I figured it was a wash paying shipping vs time and gas to pick it up.

That is great to know, the only reason I posted it, because the majority of people don't have a buddy with a gun shop and a good many people don't know how to build a gun! for the average guy, it is not a bad buy.

I can still get all of the parts from my buddy, who runs the local National Guard Armory, or get a hold of a couple my old supply Sargent's and get them for far less, heck I just put together an M4 for less than a $600.00 the other day from spare parts at the armory(Yes it the full auto Military Model). I also picked up an Armalite from another friend that needed money for $500 last month, with all of the weights, 500 rounds ammo, carry case and 5 magazines.

I know it can be done, especially if you have contacts in the industry, but many guys don't. Many guys just want to shoot right out of the box without messing around.

Good finds. I built my first one and then built one in 9mm. The 9mm is not much fun. I put one together for my wife. I just got a complete Plum Crazy (now Frontier Arms) complete lower and a complete DPMS upper and just had to push the 2 pins to make it a complete gun. Not much skill needed. That one was $525 once together. The one I built is all Rock River parts with an Eotech with N/V capability on it. I am afraid to calculate how much I have in it. :faint2:

Being a retired Military officer with 26 years in, it pays to keep contact with the guys you served with, you are pretty close to me, one of these days, we should get together and I will show you my collection of AK-47's and Uzi's, lots of fun in the sun, if you know what I mean. Every once in while, we take a Saturday and kill lots of watermelons. One of the first things I did when I retired was got my FFL to own full autos. Opens up a lot of options when you run into those special items.

My friend with the gun shop is an FFL/SOT and has over 30 full auto weapons. It is fun but ammo gets spendy. My favorite is the MP5 with supressor.
