Re: cobalt sales staff and kids

If you are buying a boat for the 'family', then all members of said family have influence. Whilst little Johnny may not be writing the check, he can influence Mom who may not be as on board as Dad. If you want to sell, you do what it takes.

I disagree. It may be a boat for the "family", but 4 year old Johnny doesn't know a thing about boats, so his opinion is moot. Children (and adults acting like children) make purchasing decisions based off of their favorite color or which celebrity endorses the product. It's also not Johnny's money being spent, so his opinion matters even less.

On a slightly different tack . . . Part of the deal was the guy was fired! That is how to p***s of your customers. It is all about respect.

Your friend sounds like a pompous jack*****. Getting someone fired because he did his job as he was told is something only a person with inflated self-worth would take pride in. How difficult was it for your friend to find a salesman like everyone else?!

The last thing I would do it take my wife and kids when I am seriously looking. Once I'm down to 1 or 2 wifey comes for input on colors and etc. If she does not like my choices I'm looking again. My daughters are adults now and the only way they will be with me boat shopping is if I'm asked to help them with a purchase.

Re: cobalt sales staff and kids

last summer I went boat shopping and I brought my Granddaughter with me. The sales person did not know the price of the boats, would not show me a boat and did not have any idea when he would have a boat to show and on top of all that he trash talked about the other manufacturers. I got upset and asked if he was renting office space or selling boats and walked out the door telling him to have a look at money walking out the door, I sure told him,,, then I had to walk back in the door to collect my grand daughter, LOL. What an ***** I can be.

Agree with everyone. Have friends with kids that can visit anytime and others that are not so welcomed. Now if anyone knows, does the 242 or 262 have carry on ice chest? Never got around to that at show and cannot find it anywhere in books, internet. No dealer close enough either.

Dont know how close you have to be to use a phone?

I think this thread shows the lack of tolerance and general respect we have developed for each other as a society.

Kid haters please try to remember that people love their kids and its the only way the world with humans is going to go on.

Parents when in public please remember that they are your kids and you are the only ones who love them and are used to their behavior.

Its a toxic cycle. Kid haters hate kids because their parents are too in love with their kids to know that they annoy other people and parents in love with their kids just ignore the kid haters because they come off as rude. Someone is going to have to give first.

At Boat Shows the snobby lot state 'take your shoes off before coming on board'. I walk past those stands.

Yeah because if I was a boat dealer and had a $35,00 boat on display at a show I would love for people to go on it and scratch it up with sand and dirt in their shoes. We all know that buyers given the chance at the showroom would gladly buy the boat that was at a boat show and scuffed up from peoples shoes rather then the one that is pristine and clean with no scratches. I bet those buyers would even be willing to overlook the damage caused by shoes and pay the same price as the other one on the showroom floor that is clean.

Weather you go to the boat show at your local convention center or a major boat show like the Annapolis boat show its just polite to take off your shoes and try to not damage a boat that does not belong to
you.

You my friend sum up whats wrong with people. Its not all about you. You should have been polite enough to think that the the dealer still has to sell the boat that hundreds of people have been walking on and its not unreasonable for him to try to protect his property as much as he can. Its not all about what you want, the dealer has put his property on the line to demo it, you should at least think of what others needs/wants are not just your own.

I think this thread represents what's wrong with the marine industry today. You don't get to choose your customers. If you think you do you'll find yourself out of business really soon.

Maybe there are more of us a bit older here. Those comments reflect the behavior of us and our children. Now the behavior and morals previously instilled are no longer. Today some children are well behaved, most are unruly brats, and some are worse than animals. It is not that kids "annoy" others it is that some belong in a cage younger than when a judge finally put them there. We have heard all the excuses from single parent to both parents working. Now there are all kinds of drugs for kids with every letter of the alphabet aflictions when all they need is their ***** warmed often.

I have deleted my posts on this thread as I find I cannot relate whatsoever to the 'tar everyone with the same brush' vitriol coming out from many of the posters about kids.
My final words and I'm outa here. Have a great day.

I don't think most of the people posting on here are "kid-haters", or even grumpy old men (I'm 30, lol). I just believe there are times and places that children belong, and a serious boat purchase is not one of those times. If you are going to a large boat show at a convention center just to dream/browse, then by all means bring the kiddos along. If you are going to a dealership with the intention of looking at a specific boat model or two, with the possibility of purchasing one, leave 'em with a babysitter. It's really just common courtesy. You wouldn't drag a 5 yr old to a black tie restaurant where you're spending a $100+, then why would you bring them to an adult meeting that may end up with you spending $10,000?

I think the other thing people here are not considering is the dreamer factor. No one needs a boat. Its like when I sold Corvettes. Lots and lots of dreamers come in, they want to check them out, drive them etc. Its really hard to weed out the people who are going to buy from the people that are just going to take your time. Perhaps the sales person misjudged you and thought you were a dreamer not a real buyer. Its really hard to tell. I had pleanty of familys come in to the dealer kids in tow. Some bought a Corvette others did not and just wanted to play with them. There is a lot more to a sales persons job then just sitting on a show room floor and waiting for a customer to come in.

Being in sales myself, I agree with that statement.
