Great weather today so I was able to get some work done on boat. Got all the grinding out of the way first on transom inside and outside. Then cut all the glass for in and out lay up. I was able to get all the glass on. Tomorrow if weather is good I want to make a template for my stringers and cut them out. I'm going to put 4 longitudinal stringer in. Really happy with the amount I got completed today.

Progress looks great. Spent most of day repairing/reworking my outside boat cover. Held up pretty good considering the heavy winter we had here. Temps hit 65 so I was able to get some glass work in. Cold front comming back today....Post some more pics. I'm right at getting the stringers, bulkheads, floor going.

Man you got yourself a project as well. Did some grinding on the outside of transom and had a couple of air pockets in the glass that was laid, tire yesterday had a full day on boat. But they feathered out good so I used Interlux 833 fairing compound on the new patched area and will let that set up over night. Did manage to get the stringer template made and 1 stringer cut out but wifey called time and non to soon as I was starting to feel tired. Climbing in and out of the boat to do cut and trim on template and stringer is tiring work but good. I was happy with what I got done this weekend.

Looks like my project and yours are relatively the same. Hey I only fell out of my boat a couple of times while working. Tried to hop out but got my foot snagged. So I keep to the ladder now.
transom is in, made templates for stringers and bulkheads. Just need to cut and fit them in. Weather is impeding me at the moment.

My SportCraft 222 OSFF is pretty close to yours and I did grab up an ole' Johnson VRO 225 hp outboard. The guys here on the website gave me alot of help and when it came to decision time to buy the motor. I did alot of research on my boat to determine the max-min engine to use. There is not alot of specific info to draw from. here's a couple of pics.


They walked me thru compression, tenative problems with the motor and current solutions to resolve mfg. issues.

Meant to attach this pic too. The ole' crabber I bought the boat from said to stick to the Johnson because the transom drillings and steering cables would work that are currently on the boat.

Mine came with a Yamaha 200 hp in pretty tough shape. It isn't frozen but I don't think that I will invest in repair on it. Probably just part it out but keep the prop. Want to put a newer larger motor on her. I got my stringers cut out so now it's time for trimming and fitting then glue and glass them in place. Need to get some biaxial tape.

Hello all, got to spend a little time on the boat this weekend. Sanded down the first layer fairing compound and applied a second coat. Plan is to spend some time on the transom and sand it down in prep for the primer. Will be using Interlux inter protect 2000 as primer. Will need a few coats on the transom. Also dry fit the stringers, they will need some more trimming before I'm satisfied with fit.

What are those two tools in the last picture? 1 is on top of bulkhead and the other in the hull. Looks real good so far. I like the spacing tool you made to keep the stringers lined up.

I guess I got a little Mcgyver in me that time. The main bulkhead is 2 pieces of 3/4" ply that is dry fit in place. In order for me to fit things by myself and keep the bulkhead square I used a speed square and spring clamp on the bottom and a block of 2x4 and clamp at the top. Then I made a couple of braces that are 26" spacing and can move and adjust things without additional help.

Weather forecast for Saturday looks pretty good so my plan is to make fuel tank compartment template and cut, dry fit. Also, I'm going to double up the stringers from tank bulkhead back to transom giving the knee portion some more strength. Please excuse my crude illustration but once complete I will take some pics. Then I want to spend some quality time sanding down the outer transom surface to prep that for primer.

I would keep the colors you used for the mock up. lol., looks good as usual. Can never overbuild, better than factory and longer life! Well today and tomorrow here the weather is perfect so time to knock out a little grinding and slap in some wood! Getting the itch now.
Are you re-using the old gas tank? I've got to take a review of mine it's been covered up awhile, look for pitting and a pressure test if it's viable. When it's time to go back in I want to make it able to be removed in the event of replacement later.

No I decided that I would replace the old fuel tank. Have been looking at the Moeller permanent mount tanks. Once I lay out the bulkhead I can measure and see how large a tank I can use and go from there. Also need to buy some PVC pipe for drain runs and conduit for electrical and mechanical runs. Fun times ahead.

Well today was productive. The weather started to make up but blew over and I was able to get a bit done. I was able to cut the double up stringers and the fuel tank compartment bulkhead. Also spent about 2 hours sanding the transom. I'm pleased with what I managed to get done today, a good day

Yup the progress looks real good! Spent all day just regrinding up the hull and other areas of the boat to get ready for wood. Found this under the sole. I kept wondering why even with my boat on a pitched angle water laid in the hull, not alot but gravity should have moved it down the line.
Found a slurry of resin laying on the bottom like someone spilled it and left it. @1/2" this. cut and chipped it out and there was water under it.




The best part was my grinder died....good riddance. Hate em anyway. Time to get a new one today and remove the mystery slurry.

Glad to hear you making progress as well. Grinding sucks but is one of those necessary evils. I will be back to grinding pretty soon. Need to start grinding the areas for the stringers and bulkheads. At a bit of a crossroad on the structure though. The boat had no stringers so not sure if it would be better to add short bulkheads off the main stringers or cut 2 more longitudinal stringers. Not sure which way will give me the best support for the new cockpit flooring.

My hull had no stringers just a few shallow bulkheads that where attached to the inner liner. Then they shot foam all under the cockpit sole and inner hull. So in your pics the main bulkhead and stringers would approximate what I'm trying to achieve. The difference in my boat is that it was originally powered by an inboard/ outboard motor. It appears that you have 4 longitudinal stringers in yours with foam flotation. What capacity fuel tank did you have onboard?

My gas tank is @ 86 gals. I'll attach pics of demo. On mine what the did was build the stringers let's say @ 8" high stock wood, then attached another stock panel on top of that to meet the bottom of the wood floor for support. The overall result was that the stringers eventually seperated from each other including the underside of the deck. They were bonded with more or less resin to each other at the joint and underside of the deck. They did not use a eanut butter mixture. Dah...no strength. Some stringers were cut/carved as los as 3-4" to the bottom of the bull to compensate for 2 side wells and a cockpit well. Pics will show it better.
The more I research under "Advanced Search" the more information I am able to gather to give me the right answers and confidence to procede.

Gas tank is mid ship, between my captains chairs their is a well, in addition to the 2 side wells I mentioned.
I'm building all stringers and bulheads in 3/4 exterior grade ply, full height to floor. Some areas like you will be beefed up and overkill.Like the bulkheads and bulkhead smalls.
Also Frisco Boater is great to watch, he has some good video rebuild and is tied to this site. Glad to talk with you! Gots me a new grinder!!
