Re: colud a tune up solve my problems

I know they're not the same but its probably the exact same part? They don't make a different carb for every horse power motor they build.

Buy a manual & a parts manual, then you'll know for sure.

Mike :D

Steve, you need to get a manual for that motor, it will explain about everything you need to know to make it run right, I don't have a clue what the settings for that carb would be, but the manual will ;)

Mike

Re: colud a tune up solve my problems

Steve - it sounds to me like you're new to outboards and don't have much experience operating or fixing them (no criticism intended, I'm no good at it either). I also understand you bought this motor from a dealer. You should go back to the dealer and they should show you how to operate this engine - how to start it, how the choke works, how to mix gas, etc. etc. If it doesn't run right, they should make it run right since they said it was ready to go. Perhaps you will have to pay for a tune up, but maybe not. but if you don't know how to operate it or what is normal and what is not normal, I'd get back to the dealer and ask for some guidance. Good luck

look at mastertechmarine.com (AKA maxrules.com) if you haven't already. If you don't find what you're looking for, give him a call - he's a great guy and will do what he can to get you what you need.

you have a fuel leak, replace your fuel line..cheap and easy fix. And for the record, after you start your engine, push the leaver that activates your choke back in......this will turn a buterfly valve on your carb to a horizontal position, allowing your engine to run leaner, giving you more power and much better fuel economy.

sprouticus i dont think it is the fuel lines though because yesterday i ran it in a tank and noticed that alot of fuel is gathering up in the carb and leaking.
steve

Re: colud a tune up solve my problems

Steve the float is locted in the carburetor.

Which is why if you plan on doing this and not making the problem you've got worse you need to get a manual.

If you look at the Ebay link about 5 or 6 posts up you'll see that the manual for your motor covers the 2.3hp, 3.3hp 4hp, 5hp, 6hp, 6.5hp and the 8hp motors for that year.

The section that covers carb rebuilds and adjustments also covers the float setting.

Here is a link to the manual for your motor, it's $65.98 at Ken Cooks,

http://www.kencook.com/evinrudejohnsonmanuals/index.cfm?fuseaction=models.main&year=1991&ID=108880

Or you could get the one for $32.95 at this link

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-3-...ryZ26453QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Same service manual, either way you are going to have a very dificult time without one.

Good Luck Steve ;)
