Re: Concealed gun question

I figured I'd chime in as well. I'm of the 3rd category as well. I originally obtained my OH CCW permit and only carried for when I snowplowed in the winter. The company I contracted for would send me to accounts everywhere, some down in the flats, up in Cleveland, and other unsavory places, mostly during the dead of night.

My first carry weapon was a Sig229 that I carried on my belt, since I only carried at the time in winter the sidearm was easy to conceal under a winter jacket.

Since those first years of carrying, I've felt more and more that you really can't be to prepared. I have since purchased a different ccw gun, and carry most anytime now. My family, is very aware I carry, as well as most of my CLOSE friends are aware. I'm often the guy they come alert when something raises the hair on their neck. Please don't mistake that, I don't go looking for any trouble, and avoid confrontations at every possible chance, but they feel comfortable with me, my demeanor, and my actions while carrying. Thats a big part of it too. Carrying I believe is a responsibility that shouldn't be taken lightly. You should act responsible, cause you are, and don't draw attention to your self by show-and-tell. God forbid something ever happens, i don't want to hint to anyone (read: potential bad guy) that i have it.

Most importantly, If there's a place I feel I can't go safely without taking my sidearm, I DON'T GO!

I don't ever want to use my sidearm, but that sad fact of the matter is this world can be unpredictable, and there are many out there that simply don't value life. I want as much chance to go home to my family as the next guy. There's a saying that was passed onto me from one of my instructors, I now pass this along to my classes when I teach self defense:
I'd rather be judged by 12, than carried by 6.

Re: Concealed gun question

I can understand and respect that someone obtains a permit and a gun for the primary reason that it is their right. At the same time I'm glad its not part of our culture. (dare I say, "yet")

Guns on the streets is a growing Canadian problem. Gun control laws have been a disaster. Who knows where we're heading in respect to this.

Perhaps guns on the streets of Canada has become a problem BECAUSE its not part of your culture?

BTW, I think (may be going out on a limb here) that guns WERE a part of your culture at one point. Thought Canada was first populated by HUNTERS and trappers?

I can't get into all that legal stuff, but I do know that VT has one of the US's lowest violent crime rates, and there really aren't any gun laws here. Don't think its that hard of a stretch to connect the two.

Anyway, just my opinion.
