Re: Covert Operation...

Not me, I'm looking for a 14 foot Ski champ or other closed bow Starcraft. That won't be until next year though. I've got my hands full with my own 18' right now.

Super deals should be a pm. No sense in getting the whole hoard of us bidding against each other now.:p

Re: Covert Operation...

So I was thinking about my boat plan...

26', 22', 18', 14'

I wonder if I might/should sort of combine/compromise the 18' and 14' and go with something in the 16' range??? Seeing that 16 footer on my way into work yesterday had me thinking this way.

An 18' would be pretty big for the rivers around here and my Islander will cover the big water just fine.

Hmmmmm, 16 footer....

These aren't yet close enough to the free side of things yet to make them part of a covert operation. Maybe.

I have spent a lot of time in 12/14 ers and the bigger boats, but not so much in the 16' range. I have two boys who will be my fishing partners and I can see this rig in smaller lakes and bigger rivers.

So, for you guys who have experience in the 16' range, how about some thoughts or advise, eh?:D

a 16' SS or CC would be a great boat for three people to fish rivers and lakes. I think it would be sweet to take an old 14' or 15' and turn it into a mini-CC fishing machine.

I've had my SS in the Grand River in Lansing and on a local lake and it sure is easy to deal with, very shallow draft even with an 80hp on there and plenty of freeboard so the little guys don't fall overboard:)

A 16' would be an excellent compliment to your Islander. I completely agree with your line of thinking. I'd rock any of those 3 Jupiters all day long.

First one: find out what the motor is. Not having a proper windshield is a negative

Second one: Has motor that might run. Windshield may not clean up.

Third one: Super nice windshield, could make some $$ parting out those motors or maybe getting one to run.

The trailers all appear to suck equally :p

Yah, I think I may go the 16ish route, probably a lot cheaper and can give me a lot of flexibility for areas I can take it.

If I had more $$$ and actually had a completed project I'd prolly jump on any one of those three. But, where I stand right now, I'd need those rigs to go for a lot less to be on my radar. I wonder if any of them would sell me just the hull for next to nothing (no trailer, no motor). Probably not.

OK, anyway...

I like the looks of that thrid one, sounds like the guy would take less if a little cash waived around.

I think a 16ft open bow would be my ideal boat.

On a practical level, I think your right on. A 16 footer is very versatile and will fit you and the kids. An 18 foot boat is not small, you'll have a hard time except on the bigger lakes forget all but the larger rivers too. Heck you can fish Lake St. Clair in a 16' if you want to but still small enough for medium sized rivers.

Good choice Jas, synchronizing watches now. Bwana 007 going radio silence.

Seems kind of rough and should go for less than $700...the upside is you get to take a nice weekend trip up to Traverse City to pick it up:D

I wonder if he has a price for just the hull with no Chrysler or trailer?

BTW...once my rig is finished I will be able to offer a trial fishing run on a 16' Starcraft for ya on Saginaw Bay since I plan on heading out to chase walleye and perch up your way before too long!

Ya, I don't suppose he'd go $200 on it asking $700.

Hey buddy! I am just a stones throw from the bay! Shoot, you don't even have to slow down! I'll just stand by the road eye balling for a yellow SS and jump in as you fly by!:D:D

Re: Covert Operation...

Sounds good...I will make sure to leave a 3-4' length of rope dangling off the bow for you to grab...and I'll even throw some pfds down so you can have a soft landing when you jump in.:D

Actually they might blow away on I-69 so you will be on your own...just don't land on one of my rapalas with three treble hooks and you'll be fine.

As far as the $700 rig...I'm thinking you can sell the trailer and Chrysler maybe for $250 each and the boat is now $200:) (minus the gas, hassle of selling some junk and your time of course...ok forget it:p)

Hey, I am durable and not afraid to bleed. Just dump your tackle box out on the deck, throw the anchor in the mix, maybe a flare or two, why not a portable fuel tank (top off), and we can just see what happens when I jump in. Might make for a real interesting trip, eh! As I said before, I'm not much of a fisherman so that might be the highlight of the day!

Ah, nevermind. That would just mess up your beauty of a rig after all that work, wouldn't it.:D

Hey, that is a pretty nice one! But, if I had to drive to Kenosha to get it I may as well be looking for an apartment too:eek::eek:

Re: Covert Operation...

All you need is a half day distraction for the wife. Send her out shopping, you can drive there and back before she gets home.

Or......... Some of us could kidnap her, and hold her in an abondend warehouse. You go get the boat, when you get back, you go and rescue her and "beat up" her kidnappers. She will be so proud of you she wont even care about that bright red boat sitting at the house. I can see nothing going wrong here. :D

Re: Covert Operation...

OK guys operation over...

I know that this thing turned into me attempting to bring home a junk Starcraft and not have my wife kill me via curling iron. And, I appreciate you guys giving offers of housing and such if I needed it.

Really what it was about was the COVERTNESS of my trailer sale. See, I priced them both high hoping that I'd sell one at that high price and make some quality cash, or, don't sell it as it was priced too high and find a cheep boat to justify the second trailer.

Anyway, I sold one of my trailers today, so, game over.

Well, maybe not completely over. How about game change?

I suppose I could still be on the lookout for a 16 footer for seat cushion money, just needs a trailer now is all.

Over and out, eh!:D
