Re: Cruise Craft Restoration

Just to keep you all updated. I am currently wiring the boat up. I have had a few hickups. Firstly was the battery switch, me thinking 'common' meant 'ground'. opppss!
Once sorted I ran into some problem with my gauges. Firstly the tack would not read. So I re wired into the rectifier and all is good. Then my fuel gauge was reading past full. After checking the connections, I discovered the sender terminal and ground terminal were 'just' touching each other.
All in all, so far so good.
Tomorrow, I will install the CD player, Marine radio and new colour sounder. I hope to get all the wiring concealed by the end of the day, ready for some pictures.

Cheers

It is, in a 12 volt circuit, 'common' is earth (what our yankee friends call 'ground'). You're not thinking of a 240 volt circuit are you?

Aldo

Re: Cruise Craft Restoration

Aldo, how are you?

The switch has 3 posts on the back.
Like this

1 2
* *

Common
*

As i understand it the 'coomon' here is for the 'common' positve bus under helm or actually any positive feed for anything. The negative never actually connects to the back of the switch. Originaly, When I connected the neg, to the 'common' post I had power even when the switch was in the 'off' position. Now, with my pos. bus connected to the 'common' and the pos. batt. teminal connected to the '1', and the negatives running direct to the neg. batt post, all is good.
I can only believe this is right?
Any input?

cheers

cheers

Re: Cruise Craft Restoration

You've got it wired right, it would seem to me that it's simply a wording glitch, but it could cause confusion - as you discovered.

I'm fine, thanks. Wife is doing well also, the physio continues.............

Aldo

Re: Cruise Craft Restoration

Well, I got all the wiring done. Everything went well. Thanks to all that helped me through this stage.
All accessories were fused seperately.
Marine grade tinned wire was used throught.
Heat shrink tubing was used on every join.
No soldering was done ( realgun :p )
Cable tubes, ties and guides were used to conceal the wiring.
A wiring diagram was made.

Boy, was there alot of wire.
I finally got everything fired up as it was getting dark./ Perfect time to see all that electrical stuff in action. Sorry the pics are not that clear, but you get the jist.
This boat will be used 1 time per week for night fishing.
There is a GPS to be installed just to the right of the steering wheel.

Here----> all the electronics in
There you are Dunaruna. Is the the largest thread in iboats history? If it isn't which one is? I won't be back this way. The lights were dimming and the desk was shaking trying to force this through my dial-up. :D
