Re: Cruise Craft Restoration

Did you consider getting a bezel in a different angle, I exa. 20 deg and an adjustable wheel, it will turn helm box down. Teleflex makes both.

*UPDATED PICTURES AVAILABLE*
I re drilled the helm thru the dash about 1, 1/4 inches to the right, turned it downward an inch and wola, it fits. That for all the responses.
Getting closer by the day. % weeks until, mag pictures, 4 weeks till 1st water run. I just bought all of the electrical today. New battery, cables, lugs, wire, switch, fuse panel, buses etc. Just waiting for my new colour sounder to come. And oh yeah, got myself a brand new SONY stereo to got with my Clairon speakers. It's getting to the good, fun part of installing all this great stuff.
That is beautiful! If it were up to me I would add a blue stripe somewhere on the hull to match the upholstry.

Outstanding work. I'm thinking of painting my hull white next year because there seems to be some yellow discoloration I can't get rid of. You have inspired me.

Based on the amazing job you have done with your resto, I had no doubt you would find a solution to the steering issue. I was right; you did and the dash looks great. Every time I see that paint I am amazed. I am kind of digging Mark's idea of a blue graphic on the hull. :)

Mark: Did you try Comet w/bleach ??? lol

Tengals: I'm still in awe. Thumbs-up. I'd love to see a full hi res image of your complete boat in its current state of restoration.

Re: Cruise Craft Restoration

Thats all for the great positive posts. AMD, no problems showing you the hi res pics, but I can't put them on shareaproject. They are all original hi res at 1.6MB per shot. If I link one here it will slow this thread down in load times. Have you an email, i'll shoot one over to you in hi resolution.

Cheers

Tengals, how did you "turn it downward and inch or so"? Did you get an angled bezel and did the bezel cover the old hole?

I haven't seen a restriction @ shareaproject for file size. Didn't know that one existed...lol

Shoot me one or a bunch at AMDRules @ hotmail.com if/when time permits.

Since I accidentally double-posted.... I'll edit & ask a Q.

Does the center portion of your hinged windshield overhang the outer edge when fully open?

Re: Cruise Craft Restoration

boom, the bezel did cover the old hole.....just. I was left with 1 screw hole visible, so i mounted my GPS holder there. My GPS in that position is not ideal, but I really didn't have anywhere else to put it anyway, so it was sort of a blessing in disgiuse. I just rotated the helm an inch and it fit perfect. I guess i got lucky. AMD I will send you a pic shortly. Secondly, yes because of the size of my walkthru, the center part over hangs the frame a little, but not over the boat. You can't win them all, i guess. PUN, thanks for the post, im watching your project too, great work.

cheers

Re: Cruise Craft Restoration

Guys, in my in-floor storage box, i have exposed resined ply. This area is for dry storage only. I was going to carpet in there, but am looking for something other than carpet. Is there some sort of plastic spray, where you can spray it on and it's nice and thick to cover little gaps etc.
I know its a long shot but never hurts to ask. I have the same issue under my bench seat.
Any idea's?

cheers

I don't know if you have it over there, but here you could get the spray in truck bed liner done to those areas. Almost bulletproof and is thick enough to fill imperfections.

Wow!

I clicked on your shareproject link and thought I was in the wrong project! If I didn't see the progress I would never have believed that those are the same boat! Simply amazing.

-JustMrWill

Re: Cruise Craft Restoration

This is what I would do with the storage boxes, fill gaps with 'no more gaps' (water proof and flexible) then paint the entire surface with bondcrete. It'll be 100% waterproof, good enough to store ice etc. And it's cheap.

Going to the boat show Tengals?
I'll be there tommorrow (saturday).

Aldo

Re: Cruise Craft Restoration

aldo, thanks for the reply. No boat show for me, I have been in apollo bay for the last few days. How was the show anyway?
Your suggestion sounds great. What is bondcrete?
I have never heard of it before.

cheers

Re: Cruise Craft Restoration

Bondcrete is a concrete waterproofing paint. It's cheap and has a million uses. You can get it from mitre10 or bunnings. Just paint it on neat with a brush, the more the better. 4 years ago I built an ice chest out of treated pine panels, the only thing I used for sealing was bondcrete - hasn't leaked a drop since. It's brilliant stuff.

http://www.thaibondall.com/bondcrete_eng.htm

The boat show was great, lot's of new toys to drool over :) , but I didn't buy anything :( although I've got my eye on some tiny LED courtesy lights.

Aldo
