My 2000 Evinrude 50 hp 4 stroke has some white scale below the cowling is this because of heat and is it normal, anything take it off other than repainting it? I've had boat a couple seasons it was like this when I got it but seems to have gotten just a bit worse.

odd... paint surface is not only soiled with some mineral it looks krinkled
as if overheated or gone through some weird stuff that only begins and stops at a clean junction of the lower exhaust housing. ????? .

what it used in some industrial application ?

if you do get the white stuff off..... it will not fix the krinkled paint. Paint job in sight !

When all done suggest you apply regular coats of automotive wax for added protection.

almost looks like quite a bit of fuel ( or oil ) has maybe leaked out of the motor and run down the inside of the upper cowl then out down over the mid section and sat on the surface of the water , as there is some lesser damage to other parts of the motor....even the transom has similar markings .

waters in tennessee are nice and neutral.

I'm voting that is had work done, with new paint, before you got it and age is getting to it.

Might be the paint cracking, but I cleaned it with vinger this morning and it did seem to help a little and it got the transom pretty clean so I'm gonna get some CLR and try to clean it. Probably will end up painting the whole thing this winter. Here is a pic of the vinger wipe down

Industrial viniger is much stronger...(30percent) Than store stuff.

CLR is homeowner stuff and not very powerful. Looks like it worked good, the patch correct?

Both Clorox and Lysol make a mineral/ lime scale remover for the home. Does a great job removing rust, lime scale and mineral buildup. Not expensive so worth a try.
