Dog crating questions

Our dog spike is 11 months old, and we are looking to begin crate training with him. He has had several accidents in the past but only when we are not around. He is slightly visually impaired, mainly his peripheral. One question i want to ask is, does it matter if we move his crate from spot to spot in the house? Will it mess up his routine? Should we just find one spot to put his crate in the house? Where would you recommend? We have a two story house with a deck, we are not sure where we should put his crate. We know already that we have to put water in the crate, his favorite bone, and one of his favorite blankets to make him comfortable. Could the garage be a possibility ? Or our tile hallway? Or the small backyard? Also he is a very obedient mutt with super acute hearing and smell, he gets along with everybody and all animals. He is about 35 lbs at the moment. My dad lets him out in the morning before work and after work to do his business and eat his food. Currently he is staying in our garage when we are gone. We have figured out which size crate to buy. Thanks so much.

Why not continue with the garage, or the backyard, where he can move around a little?

Why use a crate at all?

What are you trying to achieve?

Re: Dog crating questions

We can't continue with the garage or backyard because it has been way too hot lately and it is very inconvenient to have to clean out the garage every day. Cleaning the backyard is no problem though. We are thinking about putting his crate outside with its door open so he can have his nice shady, comfortable crate and be able to do his business outside on the other side of the yard.

Re: Dog crating questions

we crate trained our German Sheppard, she hates it when we move her crate, or change anything about it. as she grew and we got bigger crates it took several days for here to get used to the new one. after a little dogs will actually begin to like the crate, its her den. she goes in it now because she wants to. She didn't seam to like one that was to big though, it should be big enough she can stretch out and turn around. when she got big enough we had to the metal cage type. she wasn't happy with it till we covered it with a sheet.

side note if we pull her bedding out she gets mad and she'll drag it all the way across the house from the laundry to put it back lol
