So I have a 91 Sunbird Corsair that I have had for along time and it has been flawless. The Omc 3.0 has never let me down and just runs fantastic. I have been a lucky one in only needing to replace the Balancer on this engine and otherwise it fires up and runs perfect on first try every time for years now.
Today was a day from hell. I noticed some water in Bilge area last time I took kids tubing. I figured it was from kids getting in and out wet as normal. Then I noticed the bilge was running a bit longer than normal but I overlooked it.
Anyways Planned for a Gulf trip today. Launched boat and she fired right up. We headed out abotu 20 miles. Stopped at first spot. After a while I noticed bilge was on. Then I noticed it stayed on. Pulled engine cover and the Bilge was slam full. Freaking out I fired engine to start heading to land. Engine fired up and ran for about 2 mins. Sputtered real bad and died. I figured it was becasue all the water getting thrown all over engine because pullies under water etc. Anyways. Buddies and I reacting quickly got started on getting water out quick. We did that with help of bilge pump. But water kept coming in. No plug was not missing......lol I will get to that issue in a min.
Back to engine. After getting water level down the focus went to getting engine started cause the water was not stopping. All we could get it to do was stumble and run like it was on one cylinder. Could only do this by choking carb.. Engine shaking bad and just wont run. It fires but acts like it is running on two cylinders. Water did not get in engine. We checked. First I figured something must be wet. But theres not that much. (Engine was running like it does when you change gears if that helps) Could not move boat. Would not run frankly. Carb looked to be flooding too which makes not sense but safe to assume cause not firing on all 4 cylinders? Anyways what would you guys check?
Next. We got towed (Thank god) While being towed spent time figuring out where water was coming from. Its coming from back of boat just under where the exhaust/water pipe is. Best I could tell the water was coming from that pipe but inside the back of the boat if that makes sense? No expert so fogive me for not being good with terms and lingo. How about I explain best I can. I can feel the exhaust/water exit pipe with my hand and under it as far as I can go in boat is where the water was coming from. You can feel what seems to be the bottom of the bracket that holds everything to boat just under that. Bottom of bracket then up to bottom of Tube. Water coming in from bottom of tube but in the wood.
Help me guys. I got a double wahm today. One problem caused another
