Drug testing

Have any of you guys been tested as part of a job.

At my work we have a huge problem with equipment/pu abuse. The mentality of a lot of the people who work for the company seem to think that its there right to just thunder the equipment.

A little insight the company I work for is the largest employer on the island. The pickups in the fleet have just been destroyed by these idiot,s. The managers seem to be looking the other way. I have not got any feed back from the owners.

What I was going to propose to the owners is any one caught doing over $150 damage have to go for an mandatory drug test. There has to be some reason all of this damage is taking place and has to stop before some one gets killed.

I have heard of other companies doing similar thinks to get people under control.

Random monthly drug testing was/is a way of life in the military. Up to 10% get tested monthly. Fairly effective.

With a testing program there has to be a sister program for counseling and rehab available along with consequences. This will raise the overall health care costs too. It is a double edged sword.

I think that would be a great idea. But here where i work if you tare up anything or get hurt in any way you have to have a on the spot drug test. Since thay done this 7 years ago there has been alot change.

my company does a hair test to get hired then urine test if you have an accident of any kind. And if you are just joking around about getting hi, you guessed it you get tested for talking about it...

Its all good, i had fun while growing up, but now i have alot more to live for and need the secure job to pay for my hobbies....lol

Yep had many random drug tests in my working days.

Here go pi$$ in this cup now !!.

I wasn't on drugs it was company policy to be done every 6mo's .

We have to get a hair test once every two years to keep our D.O.T regs up to date.

Yep, drug testing for employment and anytime there after. ANY accident whether your fault or not earns you an automatic drug test. Its a good thing and keeps dopes from killing or injuring others.

I'd definitely recommend that they start drug testing... The cost is small compared to the insurance costs covering broken stuff. It does work well keeping equipment from being damaged to. At least once... then that person is gone. No drug school afterwards either... they lose the job and all rights... no rehab unless they want their job back, then its up to them to go on their dime, stay clean and get tested more than others...

And in military aviation, it was pretty much automatic after even the slightest incident.

I believe that drug testing should be a must, if the company can afford it.
I have personally seen too much damage done, not only to equipment, but also families.

Just last week I slipped on some ice at work, no fault of my own. Had to report it and spend 2 hours at the medical center to get checked out and tested. It just comes with the territory.

Workers abusing equipment, seems to be more attidude and carelessness, than drug use, IMO.

Stoned people are usually quite careful!

It seems to be a part of normal job function in a lot of companies. Good it will make it easier to get my point across. Thanks for the input.

PJ, we had to get our guys certified through can am drug testing for work at a mine site.
All I can say is the guys that drank did not want to do it for 24 hours after they were told, and the weed smokers would not (I guess it takes about 45 days to get the THC out of the system, but it stays in the hair till you get it cut short after that period)

If your going to do a drug test policy then just do Random with your truck damage thing on top of the random drug testing, it will save you in legal issues. Once it is instituted then everyone gets one within the first two months then your ready to go, since your company supplies trucks for the employees you can also include alcohol in the testing process


For me its pretty simple deal you fail your fired, your informed your next appointment is at such and such address and I will meet you there so there's no reason to miss and if you decline I will drive you back to the shop to pickup your POV and your walking papers. No second chances.

My company is nearly entirely (90% of business) a government contractor in Public Safety Sector so I am pretty much contracted to be a hardliner.

I just got a "2 year" pi$$ test card. We are STILL subject to random tests. I personally think its a g r e a t idea !!!!!! The construcion business is dangerous enough on its own !!!!!

Drugs were not a big deal when I was military. Because of my ancillary duties I had to take a polygraph every 6 mo.

Later, when I worked for Docutel, the guys who introduced ATMs, I had to do a polygraph when hired that included questions about chemical substances. All employees who could get into a loaded ATM got polygraphed each 6 mo.

You know I've often wondered why Educators or Teachers are not given random test. Where I work they test all sports,band members,cheerleaders and bus drivers. Just 5 Years ago they started testing on new employees before hiring. I'm 59 years old and never had to take a drug test. Well not that I know of. Wonder how many educators would be looking for other employment.
