We have just had a couple of incidents in Western Australia that are sad and tragic.
1. The police drove a group of people home, about 7 of them, because they were too drunk to drive themselves. A couple of hours later the same police attended a motor vehicle accident. 3 of the people they had taken home, including an 11 week old baby, were now dead. They had run out of beer and decided to go back to the hotel to get more. They never made it, they crashed into a road train. To add insult to injury (and death), only the driver, the baby's mother, was wearing a seat belt....
2. A 26 year old woman was killed on her way home from work. She was traveling on the freeway when a seriously drunk driver, traveling the wrong way hit her head-on. They had a convergent speed of over 120 MPH. This guy had had his license canceled months before, for drink driving. He gave a blood alcohol reading of 0.245 at the scene. The legal limit is 0.05!
Can anyone please tell me why people who are so drunk still think it's ok to drive?
