Yep, "we" as a combined nation did extremely well RPJ, very impressive. I wonder how things will go at the Olympics with this extra money HMG is committing to training?

Are you close enough to get to some of the events in London?

Re: Dunaruna, Kiwi Phil & Get Reel

I have a problem down here.
All you see on the TV is what Australia is doing. For that reason I don't follow either the Commonwealth or Olympic Games very much.
Stopped doing it many years back.
It all started back in the Auckland Games when my brother (in NZ) said to me, What do do think about this "Goat Boy". I had never heard anything about him. Some kid apparantly came out of the Kenyan Highlands, sold his goat for the bus fare to the trials, won, and 2 weeks later was running in an international competition, and he didn't have any shoes.
Only coverage we got was on Aussies, and when there was no Aussie competing, then they did a profile on an Aussie. Sort of lost interest from then on.
I don't have Foxtel or anything, just free to air.
I really like watching sport, but I want to see ALL the teams/competitors and most often the highlights of all Games has not got an Aussie in it, so we don't get to see or hear about it.
I do watch the small Sports roundup after the news, but you see nothing but Aussies. I would love to see the boxing or something, but if an Aussie isn't there, then you ain't going to see it.
Spoke to my brother 2 nights back in Cheltenham and he told me more about the Games than I can get from TV here. That's who told me UK won a silver in the 7-a-side.
Bit dissappointing really.
Cheers
Phillip

2012 is still a long way off.
But if I can I would love to get down to London for a few days, If I get the chance I would like to get to see the sailing and the rowing, athletics would be a long way down my list.

Cheers for the congrats Phillip. I think our boys and girls have done extremely well and perhaps it's a reflection of the amount of money that is now beginning to flow through from our National Lottery into sports funding: if it is then it's been worth the wait.
I can understand why that sort of coverage would put you off viewing: it must be very frustrating indeed!

Could somebody tell me the outcome of the final test, England vs the Curry Munchers?, and of course, who won the series.
I ask this as last night I saw 2 mins of highlights of the 1-day-er between them, although it featured mainly Indians, so I can only guess the tests are concluded.
Cheers
Phillip

England captain Andrew Flintoff admitted his team had much to learn after they succumbed to a 39-run defeat in the opening one-day match in India. BBC: here

:D :D :D

Phil,
The mighty machine that is the England cricket team won the final test by 263 runs, not bad seeing as 5 first choice players were missing. The series was drawn 1-1.

As for the one-day match Stan I do not know what happend, I was listening to the radio coverage up to the point where Freddie & Peterson were smacking the ball all over the ground, the run rate was at 3.65 per over, I left the radio for a very short while thinking that England had the game in the bag, only to return to hear Plunket being caught behind and India winning the match.
The mind boggles.

Ricky Ponting said before this series that Bangladesh did not deserve to be a test playing nation.
How do you say "up yours" in Bangladishee :D

I've never so whole heartedly supported any other team than England, but today I was behind Bangladesh with every fiber of my body.

It pains me to say it but I agree with Darth, it was a damn good knock from Ponting.

:( :(

My only disagreement lies in my support for the Aussies in this match, surely one can see that they underestimated their opponent and did not play to their full potential, i guarantee you this will not happen again in this series.
The Bangladeshi's played with great courage, their batsmen provided a good showing, but kudos to the young spin bowler Mohammad Rafique who took 4-98 in the second innings and had an overall match haul of nine wickets, very impressive by any measure.
All in all it made for very good game. ;)

Re: Dunaruna, Kiwi Phil & Get Reel

Being an ex kiwi, I will tell you exactly what they will do.....they will play the game because they are too blxxdy meek and mild to upset the authroities. Plus they will make all the excuses you have ever heard to justify their participation
Mind you, that is only have as bad as that dip-stick Blair. For the life of me I can not understand his reasoning behind not taking very positive action against Mugawbe, as in invading the country and popping a copper-clad between his tutts.
I reckon it would probably only take 3-4 Battalions, a couple of weeks, and all the world would say "well done mate".
Maybe Blair should be in the Kiwi Cricket team.
Good to see this thread come back to life.
Reckon we can give it a bit of a paste-ing in 99 days time.
Cheers
Phillip

The sun never sets on the cricket empire. ;) Sort of puts the "boys of summer" and "World Champions" in a whole different light. :)
