Good comment Elmer.
That is the trap the Aussies have fallen in, they had a good team that had been playing together for a number of years, suddenly there are a couple of injuries, a couple of players lose form and the aussies start to lose some games.

A similar thing happened in the late 70s when Lillie, Thompson, Marsh and Greg Chapell all retired at about the same time, It was years before the team started winning again

whaley,

I agree, the same has happened many times in the past to England, for a prime example of this phenomenon one only needs to look these days at the Windies, i cannot imagine ever seeing them become the power team that they once were.
If England can keep up this momentum i'm sure that they are going to be the the world champions at the next world cup.

I would describe the English teams results as a flash of brilliance.
If anyone thinks the Aussies are going to roll over and play dead after this series, they don't know nothing about Australians.
Cheers
Phillip

Flash of brilliance? More like a flash in the pan. GO AUSSIES!
PS: Did you hear about the missing Aussie in New Orleans... turns out he was in jail for being drunk and disorderly and had already been evacuated! What a story he'll be able to tell his grandkids! :D

Missing Australian found in jail

08sep05

A MELBOURNE man feared missing in the hurricane-devastated US city of New Orleans has been found safe and well – in jail.

Tourist Ashley McDonald, of Narre Warren, was arrested in New Orleans before Hurricane Katrina hit last week. then was transferred out of the devastated city, his sister Jasmine Mutnansky said today.
"They evacuated the prisoners and they were scattered all over...," she said.

Her brother has since turned up in Huntsville, Alabama.

"It's not the most classy ending, but I'm glad he's safe and sound and it's over," she said.

Police had earlier recovered Mr McDonald's credit cards and driver's licence in a hotel room in Baton Rouge, and fears for his safety increased when they were unable to find him.

Overnight, Australian federal police tracked Mr McDonald to the jail.

They were this morning on their way to determine the nature of the charges against him and to find out if he could be released.

Ms Mutnansky believed he was arrested in New Orleans on August 27, almost as soon as he arrived in the city.

She said he was most likely arrested for drunk and disorderly conduct.

"He probably had one too many and got loud ? it wouldn't have been anything serious," Ms Mutnansky said from her home in Tennessee.

Ms Mutnansky said her brother appeared to have lost his wallet in a mugging before his arrest.

She said police discovered three people at the Baton Rouge hotel had used Mr McDonald's credit card.

But no charges were laid because the three told local police Mr McDonald had given them his wallet voluntarily while they were drinking at a bar on Bourbon Street in New Orleans on August 27 - the day he arrived in New Orleans and was arrested.

Mr McDonald, 30, was the last Australian tourist believed missing on the US Gulf Coast.

A further five Australians who remain unaccounted for are all long-term New Orleans residents.

Mr McDonald had planned to start his US holiday in the French Quarter of New Orleans before visiting his sister in nearby Tennessee.

He had not made contact with his family since arriving in the city.

Mr McDonald's parents, Sharon Thomas and Doug McDonald, rushed to the United States earlier this week and began searching the Astrodome in Houston, Texas.

The family feared the worst when Mr McDonald's credit cards and identification were traced to the hotel, but Australian and local police and a consular official did not find him there.

Ms Mutnansky said her parents had given up the search in despair and decided to fly to Tennessee to be with her and grieve.

"We honestly thought he was dead when they found his credit card and spoke to those three," she said. "My parents thought there was no point staying in Houston."

"But then a federal police officer called me and said he had good news - (Ashley) got arrested.

"It's a real happy ending, but it's not a glamorous ending."

Ms Mutnansky said she would break the good news to her parents when they arrived in Tennessee today.

He's upheld the noble traditions we most value, especially when venturing abroad.

Drunk.

Confused.

Lost

Gaoled.

And probably couldn't give a stuff!

Ideally, he worked a technicolour yawn or two in there before becoming a prisoner of the septics.

Ashley Mc Donald, we salute you.

Mate, you're a legend!

Stumps on day 1

The Aussies may just have the upper hand after todays play, we will have to see how they bat after they have taken the last 3 England wickets.

Great batting by Strauss & Warnie's bowling was almost at his best before lunch.

There's rain forcast for tomorrow and Sat, I've got this felling that England will be happy to get wet.

Gotta love those UK weather forecasters. In my time with the RAF we lived and died by the weather and there was a standing joke about the met-men: "they always say it's going to rain because then at least they're right about 70% of the time!"

BTW: GOOD JOB WARNIE! AUSSIE! AUSSIE! AUSSIE! :D

Hi Aldo

England won the toss and batted, Tresco & Strauss were going well, 82 without loss then Warnie took 3 quick wickets before lunch and 1 just after (tresco, Vaughn, Bell & Pieterson)Outstanding bowling.

Flintoff and Strauss put on 143 before McGrath had Flintoff caught at slip, then Tait did for Collingwood and just before the close Warnie got Strauss (129).

England were 319-7 at the close on what looks to be a great batting track, I don't think they've done enough. The weather forcast is for rain this afternoon and all day tomorrow, if it does rain I recon a draw. :( :D :D
