Re: Evinrude 115 stripdown

If the deflectors were replaced with a casting as part of the block they would tilt the cylinders when they got hot & cold.

Re: Evinrude 115 stripdown

i was told that the switch was not up to the tas..even though it was an on -off-on switch... bob
That's because any switch will have resistance within the contacts and the sensors are working on very very small changes in resistance to begin with.
I would like to go for 2 gauges, the problem I have is actually getting the gauges. I can't seem to buy them out here and can find noone on the net in the states that will ship out here! Not sure where you were looking but these guys seem way more reasonable with the shipping.....$43US plus $18US extra for an additional item......UAE is on the shipping list.....

Another, not exactly what youre after, worth consideration for the price though.....

Iboats sells the same version as the last link also.....

Re: Evinrude 115 stripdown

No problem. My parts guy gave me an initial heads up that i ingored until replacing all else. Hard to believe those little boogers have so much to do w cooling those heads down. Now we all know! Lol
If they would have designed the block right in the first place........

Re: Evinrude 115 stripdown

Hi Guys
I checked the cylinder compression after the first 6 hours of running in
Cylinder 1 & 2 = 115
Cylinder 3 & 4 = 105
Initially (before she went into the water)all 4 were 115 , should I be worried and is there anything I need to check?
Seems to run fine and no overheating. coughs and splutters a little bit, but only very minor.
Cheers
Ben

Just find it strange 3 & 4 are down the same? does anyone have any ideas?

Re: Evinrude 115 stripdown

Are you numbering 3 & 4 cylinders bottom port and bottom starboard?

Re: Evinrude 115 stripdown

1 and 3 are starboard
2and 4 are port
and yes I have found that bottom cyl. will sometimes be lower. Something to do with oil and gravity I presume.

Re: Evinrude 115 stripdown

So that would be
Starboard-------Port
----1------------2 Top
----3------------4 Bottom
If so then
2 + 4 have a lower comp of 105
whilst
1 + 3 are reading 115 .
I'm thinking I may have broken a ring when I installed the pistons on 1 + 3! I'm hoping its something more simple

Well there both in the same bank. You may have a gasket problem. Something that is common to both cyls.

Todd
I actually don't mind doing the work because I'm learning all about the engine.

Do you think I'll be ok taking it out again...........................or I should leave it as it is until I can get a gasket?

A 10 psi diff from high to low on that motor may not be so bad. It's a workhorse that can function well with specs like compression border-lining acceptable. I'd hate to be the one to say yes and something happen but I wouldnt be afraid to myself.

double check the torque on that head it may have loosened up from running it...

if the torque is still good the id suspect that head again....

is it the bad one??? i may have a head you can have ...you just gotta pay for the shipping what was the part number on it ?? us zip is 31419 check it out n get back to me

Re: Evinrude 115 stripdown

just checked and the part never changed from a 79 this one is off of a 79 85hp but they are identical and it has the bosses for the coils.
<- a testament to a good design , i guess lol
like i said you can have it if you ship it ... i almost threw it away the other day...
