Re: Exhaust Pin?

That sounds like the pin that the exhaust flapper should be on.

Re: Exhaust Pin?

Seems to me (from another thread) Volvo stopped putting exhaust flappers on some of their models. If you put Volvo 3.0 GS in the thd title I'm sure Don or one of the other techs will address the issue for you. BTW welcome to iboats.

Can't find the thread but wasn't there a service bullitin that the flappers should be removed? Mine were so distorted from heat that they didn't do much anyway.

So if it is a seal, it stops water from entering the riser/engine... i did find the thread where you guys are speaking, but if the factory put it there to stop/slow water from entering i'd be interested in getting that part back in. Any suggestions? It seems dealers no longer have the part after calling around.

It is the pivot for a flapper valve to let exhaust out and not let water in. Check ebasicpower they'll probably have it. I tried leaving them out on an engine I did and the first time I backed it in the water the engine hydrolocked. I don't know of any updates from Volvo.

What year is your Volvo? They may not carry the part because it's no longer required. Like I said in my earlier post. Put Volvo 3.0 GS in the title of you thread and you may get a Volvo techs attention, and the correct answer to your question.

Gotcha. Can anyone edit my title ? I cant. I'd hate to start a new thread.

I just got off the phone with a tech at volvo penta, they no long use the flapper in question. the tech assured me it was nothign to worry about, and that the riser design they have should handle any water that gets that high, and to avoid backing up in near to full throttle or killing the engine while driving/in gear. He also ssaid he would not worry about it and they instruct the dealers to remove the piece if they see it, and to NOT re-install one since they are known to break off.

Even so I will love to have an exhaust flapper just as extra insurance...maybe a mercruiser exhaust bellow with flapper would do the trick for me ?

Only you or a mod can edit your posts.;) There is an "Edit" button/icon in the bottom right hand corner of all the post you do. Click on it in the original post then go to the title block and edit away. When you are finished just click on the save changes icon and your done. BTW I edited this post, the original said to click on the submit icon, there's not one on the edit screen.;):D:D

After the initial edit window opens you'll see an advanced tab next to the save tab, click on that and it will open a window allowing you access to the title block for editing.
