rain..

rain..

i got brave and did what i could between waves of showers. managed to get the last two deck panels in along with the pvc pipe and battery cables. managed to pb around most of the two panels, then the rain stopped me. couldn't tab them in. had to tarp the boat and wait til tues. 100% chance of rain today but 10% chance or less for the 9 days following. after the rain stopped my activity outside, i move to the garage and finished cleaning the disassembled steering box. new grease and re-assembled. already did the cable so that's ready when the time comes. should feel like power steering compared to the way it was.

tabbed in the bow sections except two spots i had to wedge. ran a strip of csm across the seam between panel 2 and panel 3. wifey took the camera to work.

tomorrow: pb and tab where wedges are, wrap csm over edge of step. maybe do the 2nd layer (1708) of tab around perimeter. pics if she leaves me the camera.

stepped in my strip across seam reaching for roller ...fixed it...did it again . i was barefoot. hope my sock comes off when i get home. normally i woulda been irate, all i could do was laugh. :D

I realized that if the boat took on water, there would be limited crossflow/equalization. now it can flow freely under the bow section. third and fourth pic...template this! fifth pic shot from deck level...tried to show surface of deck with grain of csm telegraphing through the resin and shows where pvc/battery cables comes out of bow and go up under cap.

wanted to show the stringer mistake because i modified the original design and created the crossflow problem. listing to one side could've sunk the boat. i was lucky i saw the problem and corrected it. back to rule # 1...don't add to or take away from the original design! my adding support for the bow section could have had a disasterous result!

pics 2,3, and 4 are especially for oops. his post about shoveling a path back to his igloo reminded me of winters past so...here's a little sunshine.

1st pic is the whole bow section, the dock where the boat should be, going to the gulf, coming back in, and nieghbor across the canal sunbathing...:D

got a little farther and ran out of hardener. went and bought 2 more gallons of resin and an extra hardener. it's cooled off since july and i had to spice up the resin recipe. . biax tabbing is done, transom got a layer of biax and i plan to do the bow section of deck with biax too. i'll tack pics before i continue. spent 2 hours grinding to prepare for more layup...no bugers, no bubbles :D!

Re: update...

Re: update...

took a break for a few days. went supply shopping. transom layup revealed a few bubbles that had to be dealt with. i tried to do the csm over the wet biax.running out of hardener meant tearing off some of the csm that i couldn't wet out and trying to salvage the edges without leaving a huge mess to grind off when it set. over the weekend i'll shoot some now pics and then the fun begins...
i managed to scrounge up the money to biax the entire deck :D:D:D. if i get lucky, the deck will get csm'd over wet biax and i'll still have enough resin to install the 'wells and seatstands.
there will be pictures...

update...

update...

at the last minute i changed my mind about biax on the entire deck. the bow section ate up so much resin...7oz per sq ft to wet out csm+biax. its the ideal way to go but overkill for this size boat. i csm'd the remainder of the deck and ground off the failure on the bow section. direct sunlight made it kick before i could get it 100%. i knew better than to try it without setting up the tarp for shade. laziness left me with a 6" x 10" stripe to rework . before work this morning, i did most of the prep on the wells. hope to install them tomorrow.
