OK guys I just came across a boat that for the money I cant refuse. if any thing the trailer is worth $200 they are asking. has a 40 hp Johnson moter. he claims she is 1976 but I think she is older more like 1966?? what do you think?

told motor needs new starter. rest is solid. it is fiberglass but again I figure the trailer alone is worth what they are asking.

Depends on how long it's been stored bow down like that.. Storage like that can actually twist the tongue which will cause massive sway going down the highway. In that case, the trailer is worth basically scrap. And of course bow down is not the way to store a boat anyway. That leads to rot and structural damage in a 'glass boat..

As far as the year, you may be right.. I think it's a Starcraft Arrow which would have been a hull available in the '66-'67 timeframe and that windshield is 100% mid 60's Starcraft design.. Blue deck is also right for an Arrow.. If owner says it's a '76, check the paperwork because it is not a '76.

If you are being told that the motor needs a new starter basically that tells me that you won't be able to check compression, I am always leery when an ad states that as a seller knows that you won't be able to check compression as well. Additionally I see no seating in the pics, meaning that requires a purchase or fabrication of new seats (anywhere from $200-$800). Again even if you get lucky and there is no rot in the boat you will be in it for another $800 to make sure she is safely seaworthy.


I would walk, VERY few fiberglass boats are worth the time or effort and I say that even knowing that is a Starcraft.

The Seamist is WAY overpriced even with the $150 worth of extra gear in top notch condition it is a $1700.00


These boats that you have posted are both less desireable closed bow boats. Which make them harder to resell and less desireable, when you decide to upgrade (and you will decide to upgrade).

Honestly the best boat I have seen on here for the money is the one that PONY posted.

I don't believe it is a 15' I actually believe it is a 16 supersport. Which will be extremely versatile, comfortable, and will help to offset the urge of going bigger or upgrading later.

That is definetly not a hydro shift Evinrude for $1500.00 in that condition it is a good price but I would call and offer $1300.00, even if they didn't accept I would still pay full price for it.


Ohh yeah and the seller of mine told me that everything seemed to be solid as well this is what I paid $900.00 for BUT I knew he was full of crap as well.

I'm clueless as to why so focused on a 60's boat? But if 60's is what you want, it just so happens a dock acquaintance of mine has a 1963 Century Arabian he's selling-- I think it's 21' but not positive. It' in better shape than most 5 year old boats. It's all original, save for 1 piece of upholstery was repaired, like 15 years ago. Speaking of upholstery, the GUNWALES are upholstered on this thing. Beautiful helm, lots of old stuff like throttle pull knobs and a column shifter. It's running the original 390 Ford, lots of original chrome all over it, don't remember if it's direct or V-drive, but it's got a prop & rudder sticking out the bottom... Went for a ride in it 2 years ago, what a freakin' blast! Don't have pics but I can get 'em, the thing's parked at our harbor...

If I had 8 grand and 3 less boat's I'd buy the thing..

I would run away, threre aint no such thing as a $200 boat that doesnt need restoration. As for the seamist, i thought it was a starmist? Anyway there isnt any real price guide on these old boats, especially ones that need zero restoration you shell out an extra few bucks it may actually save you money in the long run.

You can put what I know about glass boats in a thimble, but I'll point out one thing that got confusified (technical term) a couple pages ago. The process for checking for transom flex is this. Grab the foot and rock the motor back and forth. If flex is evident walk away unless you want a project. If flex is not evident stand on the antiventilation plate and bounce. If flex is still not evident she's solid. Happy hunting and welcome aboard young lady!

he has it listed as seamist but when he gave me the model tag information it called out a 16ft Starmist. I think this is a nice boat but I feel like I need to keep on looking and the right one for me will come along.

you need to stop focusing on the hull and focus on the motor. start with a 2000 outboard in good running condition--unless you like paddling and paying mechanics and going weeks without a boat.

I have attached pictures of the latest boat I am going to go look at in a couple of days. he asking $2500 for it. while I know that is to much I was hoping you could tell me what you feel would be a reasonable offer. I spoke to him it has a 1980 9.9hp Johnson. I put some pictures of it for you to look at and posted particulars on it. I would value your opinion on this boat and what you think would be a fare offer.

updated pictures and information on boat.

Starcraft 16 foot boat. 1964 model in excellent condition. Never stored in water. Always covered when stored - photos show tarp and you can see props used for the tarp in photos.

Comes with well maintained Johnson 9.9 HP motor that runs excellent along with trailer, tarp, depth finder, fuel tank, life jackets, anchor, paddle, electric running lights and battery.

Both floor and transom are in excellent shape. Original folder down seats. Registration good thru 2015.

It could be a nice boat. looks clean from the tiny pics, but with a 9.9hp engine on the back of it, it's worth less than 1/2 of asking price.. It won't be a fast boat like that. possibly 10 MPH or less

just couse you you may have had a bad experience with a vintage motor , doesnt mean they cant be made reliable.

For some reason I can't get the pictures to load worth any size but everyone here is correct. With a 9.9 it isn't worth over 1k. I stand by my first assessment that the Supersport is the way to go. There is a reason that very few manufacturers still make closed bow boats.


As a matter of fact after looking at that boat (at least what I can tell) unless you are going to stay on a horsepower restricted lake the boat is so severly underpowered I probably wouldn't make an offer unless I planned on dropping another $1000 for a proper motor I would think a 50 hp would be very sufficient for that boat.
