Re: First New Boat Purchase - Single Female Help
If it is in really good shape, then $1300 may be reasonable. It looks like 60s or 70s vintage boat. It actually looks pretty good, thought it is hard to tell from the photos. A couple of boat specific comments. If that is marine vinyl on the floor, then that won't be original (the interior doesn't look original to me).. This could be really good news....or not. If there was simply a carpeting replacement, then the floor may still be original underneath it. If the owner says he or she replaced the floor - check and see if the entire floor and foam underneath it was removed and replaced (that would be good news). If, however, the PO simply put plywood over the top of the old one, then they have simply covered up some major problems, and I would avoid this like the plague.
As for the trailer - was it in an accident? It looks like there is a significant deformation to the main bar of the trailer. That could be a real concern. I would be very hesitant to use this until a mechanic had inspected it and I had test towed it. You may need to replace that bar for safe towing.
her is the write up on the 1964 StarCraft Seamist for your info.
About this 1964 Starcraft seamist Runabout
1964 Starcraft seamist,Great 1964 Starcraft Seamist classic. In very good condition. Wind shield in excellent condition, newer marine carpet, (light blue) wiring in great shape, dash is nice, everything works, new light switch, bilge pump, trolling motor battery hookup and box. Modern cable steering upgrade for safety, retained original steering wheel in great shape. Floor is like new, may have been replaced at one point with treated wood. 30 pound thrust Minnkota trolling motor included, used maybe twice. Seats need to be recovered, but frames and springs are in great shape. Hull is in very good shape rivets are tight no leaks, boat has no rot in it at all, was garaged all its life.Area under bow is open for storage. The engine is a 60hp, 1965 Johnson that originally came with the boat. It runs like a top, looks to have very low hours after careful inspection. The following work has been done in the past two seasons as preventive maint., rebuilt carb, rebuilt fuel pump, replaced water pump, cleaned and inspected magneto and rotor, adjusted throttle and shift linkage. Installed Boysen reed valves to improve low speed running, these older engine designs didn't like it to much. New spark plugs at the end of last season. New fuel hose. Two original steel 6 gallon tanks one 3 gallon plastic. Two props, one new the other is useable, but could stand to be repaired. Compression is excellent. will do test for buyer if so desired. Starter battery is one year old, large interstate. The boat comes with dock ropes, two anchors and ropes, life vests, fire extinguisher, compass. Humming bird depth finder and engine manual. The trailer tows very well, old gator trailer, needs paint, tires are both newer, spare, guide on bunks
See any thing in the language I should be concerned about? So many boats to many choices. I just love it. LuAnn
