Re: First Resto Project HELP!

Hey man,

One more thing on the Identification of your boat, if it was built before 1972, it would not have a HIN on the hull. I think they didnt start that until September of 1972...I had a pre-1972 boat years ago and just registered it as a 1970 so they wouldnt ask me for the HIN. Hope this helps...

Re: First Resto Project HELP!

Thanks for the ID tip!

Here's a little more about the 16 footer. I was wrong, it is a Glasspar Avalon.
It has a 12 digit serial# with no letters. Some pics are attached.
It's in pretty good shape. The guy I got it from replaced the transom and ripped out the old deck. The hull is very solid a new deck has been laid down now it's up to me to glass it in. Again NO foam. You guys talking about the foam have me nervous.
Anyway if any body can tell what this boat is please fill me in!
It also came with a rebuilt Chrysler 700 Slier OB. I didn't listen to it run I just took the guy's word. I traded little for it so I was not too choosy.

Check out the Chapter/Club page at the AOMCI website (www.aomci.org) and see if there is a club near you with a swap meet planned...the spring thaw is coming, good place to shop motors and meet new buds.

Thanks that the one i was looking for !! John

Definitly got the bug.

That club site looks cool. I have an old Clinton Apache J8. The thing runs great but the return spring broke! Anybody know where to get one?

Re: First Resto Project HELP!

Looking like the 16 footer is a 64 or 65 Glasspar Avalon.
Rated for 40-90 HP. It came with a Rebuilt Chrysler 700 Skier.
Do you think that is a good motor for the 16 footer?
The guy that did the rebuild said that they took it out once and it used 4 gallons per hour of fuel? Is that good or bad? I would think bad but I'm no boat mechanic.

Does anyone know where to get a good shop manual for that engine?

I got the deck down on the Lonestar. No pics yet I will take more right before I start to glass her. Do you know where I could get some fiberglass sheeting to lay over the deck like the original?

Re: First Resto Project HELP!

Hey all!

It's been a while since I've bugged you!

As I posted before I was working on a 58 Lonestar and a 65 Glasspar Avalon.
Well my buddy got the bug and has taken over the Lonestar project leaving me to work on the Glasspar. We found and old pair of 25hp evinrudes to put on the Lonestar. Not sure of the year yet but they are late 50s early 60s for sure. They came off of an old police boat. Pretty cool.
The Glasspar is a 16 footer and is pretty good shape. I am in Northern Colorado and we don't have alot of big water so I am going to try and convert this tub into a sort of Colorado flats boat with a tiller control engine. A 35 HP Johnson Seahorse 1957 model (looking for a tiller handle with twist throttle). My question is I am wandering if I can remove the rear cover of the hull that attaches to the transom perminantly without comprimising stregth. Any input is greatly needed and apreciated!
Hammer me if I am doing the wrong thing by not putting this baby back original.
