Ted, will you be extending the trailer with the hull extension / conversion?

Quick update . . . This morning I checked the suspect tire and it was flat (again). So, there must be something going on. Soapy water has not revealed anything . . . So, I have the tire in a dunk tank, looking for bubbles.

Mystery solved . . .

It was a flakey valve stem (valve actually). When I check the pressure it starts leaking. When I check it again it stops leaking.

Looks like a new valve stem should do it. :D

Your post reminded me to check the tire pressure on my two trailers., as it approaches time to pull 'em. The speedboat trailer had 50PSI and called for 80PSI. I filled it. The 21 footer tandem trailer was fine at near 50PSI.

I also was inspired to spray the rusty parts of the trailer with cold galv paint.

The disc brakes still bind the calipers, due to rust, but they will loosen up, as I pull it. Cast iron rotors are not good in the maritime, but they are cheaper than aluminum.

I always use a TPMS on trailers. With my 2024 GMD 2500 Denali, I have the trailer TPMS integrated with my vehicle. For my boats , I uses a TST 507 system. Can save LOTS of damage.

I keep a number of pressure gages in my garage and barn, always one handy to check pressures before heading out. Just part of my getting ready to go routine. Once the trailer is pulled out if my barn, I do a walk around to check lights, be sure safety chains are connected, coupler locked and tire pressure checked.

Many thanks Scott.
Does that mean a tire place is my best place to buy the valves ?

Thank you. I will install them on my trailer tires. (y)(y)
Are all the tire transmitters interchangeable ?

if you are wanting to install TPMS sensors for your trailer, then you need to get an associated reader and have the TPMS sensors installed in your tires on the trailer. these can be the TPMS sensor and valve stem or the units that simply screw in place of the valve caps.

they make systems that are stand-alone, they make systems for your phone, and some OEM trucks have provisions to pair the truck with the trailer (option on a few trucks)

there are also the aftermarket systems like this. https://www.amazon.com/Tymate-TM7-Pressure-Monitoring-Real-time/dp/B0CPPDR25B
that use TPMS sensors in the valve caps.
