Re: Florida Get Together 2010 OFFICIAL NOTICE make your reservations!!!!!

The boat rental idea sounds good, but also sounds good to hang with another member also and get out there. Besides being with a local might mean better fishing, knowledge of the area. I may just have to do this and see if there is a way I can bring some gear with me. Just so I have some of my own stuff.

Sounds good guys I will make a decision here soon. Time flies you know.

Hopefully you will come and join us. CR has some of the best inshore trout fishing on the large flats just south of the main channel. The rigs are very basic. Show up and we can surely give you some pointers.

This offer goes to anyone else who wants to get the ins and out of flats fishing. We don't do it often from this boat, but all those deeper flats hold some nice fish..and once you pick up the technique, you will be good to go!

Wish it was not an 10 hour drive for me! I would love to come down.

We need to move it north the next year...

Re: Florida Get Together 2010 OFFICIAL NOTICE make your reservations!!!!!

Gary a 10 hour drive is nothing for an old truck driver. besides you need a trip. but it is going to be the beginning of the season. but my thought, they waited to get the boats worked on. they can wait for me to take a weekend trip.

Yeah, buddy you said that! That drive from Ft Myers is just gonna keep on getting longer and longer...

For us, the border isn't all that far away, so sounds interesting. Maybe Nolan (nlain) can rustle us up a spot......

I would like to meet all you guys for breakfast and more too. Don't think I'll be able to camp out but really would like to meet the guys that have helped me out and taught me more about boating.

X2.....

Actually I have a little tackle business and can bring some gear for anyone to use for the duration of the meet. Also have a few tips for those wanting to do a little trout or redfish fishing on the flats right outside the channel. I am thinking we can have a little seminar Saturday am after breakfast and get all those that want to fish on the same page....
Florida requires a license for those residents and non-residents fishing salt water as well as fresh water. They will be available at bait and tackle shops as well as at the local WalMart.....Rick

Re: Florida Get Together 2010 OFFICIAL NOTICE make your reservations!!!!!

Well, I am heading down to our Alabama facility for at least the first 2 weeks of January. Most likely 3 weeks. I will be using one of the weekends to drive down and check the campground out with Mrs Ken when she comes down to visit during my trip. I will then schedule my next trip to our Alabama facility around the get together weekend.
Any decent motel / hotel places to stay for our "check it out" weekend ??? and how much of a drive is it from Gadsden, Alabama ??

507 miles, not bad !!!! I will be driving around 800 miles from home to Gadsden Alabama LOL.
We will without doubt stay a night or 2. Maybe set off on the Friday evening for a few hours and finish off Saturday morning. Stay Saturday night there and drive back to Gadsden Sunday.

Rick, is Crystal River area both freshwater and saltwater, had not thought about it until your post. Since there are springs I'm thinking both fresh and salt.

Re: Florida Get Together 2010 OFFICIAL NOTICE make your reservations!!!!!

The river itself is a big freshwater river that empties down into the Gulf of Mexico. Where we will be staying I would consider the river brackish. The farther you head upstream the more fresh it will be. However, the only really good fresh water species, bass and crappie will be a long ways from where we will be. Brackish and salt water fish: trout, redfish, sheepshead will all be available without venturing too far. Your fresh water gear will work fine for these fish. Only after running offshore a few miles will you need to stiffen up your gear for the grouper, shark, cobia, big bull redfish that prowl around out there.
Tashasdaddys pontoon will do really well as will your boat for fishing the very large close inshore grass flats just outside the channel mouth. Any light to medium action baitcasters, spinning gear, etc. will also do well to hook and land those fish. One of the more popular techniques is to drift those flats with a float rig and use live shrimp or artificials. For that kind of fishing, most any rig will work that can play out some line behind the boat....

Re: Florida Get Together 2010 OFFICIAL NOTICE make your reservations!!!!!

I just stumbled on this thread. I recently re-located to Florida (again)..... is this open to anyone? What kinds of bats are OK to bring there?
I have a 20' Glastron. Are dogs OK in campground? My wife & I would love to come play!
I saw where all the waterfront sites are "blocked" how can i reserve one?
I assume tents are OK, or does it have to be an RV?
thanks!
