Re: Florida Get Together 2010

try: river ranch
great marina, have camping, cabins, motel, pool(s), hot tub, rental boats, bait shop, restaurants, etc
Its actually a small town; they have their own post office and zip code
Not cheap, but they love groups

http://www.wgriverranch.com/

Also great bass fishing on the river.

If you want I could look into a group trip there, I'm pretty sure that's the place Inger just renewed their liability insurance.

Unless there is another River Ranch? Isn't that where the speed boats meat every year??

I'll ask her when she gets home.

Re: Florida Get Together 2010

Has anybody ever been to Crooked River state park just over the Georgia line?

http://gastateparks.org/info/crookriv/

I never stayed there but checked it out a while back, they have a decent ramp, cabins, tent and RV parking. We've stayed in some Ga state park cabins and they're pretty decent. If some families or friends want to stay together the cabins hold 8-12 people. Some cabins allow dogs too.

Just my 2 cents...

that's an idea, but we don't have a lot of So GA, members, wonder if the So Fla members would come that far. no swimming facilities.

Paramore's Fish Camp looks promising and is really close to Lake George, Silver Glen, and other springs in the area.

Ok guys, I have three more to look at. Gamble Rogers Memorial state park, Lafayette Blue Springs State Park (Mayo FL), and last but not least, Manatee Springs State Park. If I remember all have swimming and are not priced to high

Re: Florida Get Together 2010

here is my question? do we want to meet as close to the middle of the state, find one place and make it our meeting place? OR do we want to meet at different places around the State?

one year the NE, one year the SW, one year the NW, then the SE. doing this. no one will end up over the period of meetings, always having to drive long distances.

please respond in the thread, not by PM, PM's only benefit me, not the membership.

Anywhere works for me. I will be travelling quite a distance no matter what. Good idea for different areas of the state though.

Re: Florida Get Together 2010

I don't have a problem with it being moved around the state, if it is somewhere I think is to far for me I will miss that one. Most any 4 to 5 hour pull is great for me, longer than that and I will still consider but think a little harder about how I feel about a trip that long at that time. I know there are some that probably would have liked to go to the last one but felt it was to far for them, which I very well understand, so they should have one closer to them. There is another consideration in moving around and that is some folks camp in campsite and some folks camp in hotels, so decent lodging at a decent price as close as possible to the meeting area. Some of the places that have been suggested did not seem to have hotels nearby, never did check prices. That was one good thing with Lake Griffin, both type campsites were close by and a good price.

Those are wonderful parks!!! I grew up in Mayo and spent alot of time there and still am only 60 miles from there. Only thing is for the non campers the closest motel is Cindys in Mayo and it is not the greatest motel.

Now manatee sp is great for camping fishing and swimming. Motels in Chiefland about 8 or ten miles away. Not too far. If this is something we wanted to do I am friendly with the park manager through work and I can talk to her about group rates and facilities we can use. It is a beautiful park. There are lots of springs around there and the river is plenty wide for tubes wakeboards ect.

Also one other place I thought about is Hart Springs on the Suwannee. I have never stayed there but I went with a buddy to buy a boat from a guy that was and I checked out the place. It is very nice and I think fairly reasonable priced.

Also as stated above I am a fan of moving around the state if it is too far then just miss that year. But moving around will give more new expierences and adventures which is one of the most fun parts of boating. I thinks

Florida get together 2010

Do we want the same location each year?

would you like to change it each year because of travel time ?

Do you relay care, because if it's too far I'm not going?

OR do you think it would be fun exploring new fishing holes is worth it?

Re: Florida Get Together 2010

just my thought,

On one hand moving around to different sites has an appeal, different water, different fishing.

On the other hand, one central site would be eaiser to coordinate every year.

Astor looks like a good area.

since you asked here is my take, there are those that always chime in on a thread, but shine or don?t show when its time for the event, a poll of Florida members would need to be taken to even gauge if there is interest in other regions before you guys start picking places, if a few So Fla members are not really interested in attending and you pick a place in West Palm Brach area, that?s just kinda silly, and if Jax area gets the vote the folks from SW Fla probably would not make the drive either.

because if it's too far I'm not going

I think a lot of people have this in the back of their minds, while it seems hard to pick a permanent location right now, maybe try this twice a year scattered around the state at different places and see what location is the absolute best. A February meet up in Jax would not be as pleasant as one in Ft Meyers. This might also help gauge attendance in different parts of the state and allows you to knock out 2 places in a year, rather than just one a year. Sooner or later we would all agree on the same place !

Do we want the same location each year?

I know we just started this event last year, but I think if the tradition continues the event will grow and grow, but the location would need to be constant?.think of business conventions and such, they always remain at the same location so families can plan vacation times around those dates each year if they plan to attend.

On one hand moving around to different sites has an appeal, different water, different fishing.

everyone like new places, the wife and I discuss this all the time as to where to go boating, there are places I have never heard of till you guys posted those links ( thanks for that ) , we might get a different view in the first year or two as we search for the best location, but this poster also added ?one central site would be easier to coordinate every year.?

If I can help take the weight off anyone?s shoulders I would be glad to pitch in and help scout locations, gather info as well go and visit some place near Central FL, even help organize. But In planning events such as this, the planners need to address the wants / needs of the attendees to make the event successful. ie??.. pets, kids, pool?? Just my .02

"planning events such as this, the planners need to address the wants / needs of the attendees to make the event successful. ie??.. pets, kids, pool?

exactly the reason for this thread. looking at sites on the net, and brochures, is really hard. i would have never thought Lake Griffin, was as nice as it was, by what i saw on the net, or brochures. i made the recon trip down there last year, when we were on another mission. then posted the real pictures.

i also recond Parramores, and Astor Bridge on that trip. having first hand inspections and pictures by members. makes a big difference.

if some one wants to take a lead, and put together a South Fl get together i have no problems with that. i just cannot put 2 of these together in a one year period.

the economy is hurting all of us, and door prizes are drying up. the prizes i got this year, all came before the crunch.

the thing with Lake Griffin, is that it is a pretty central location, nice, clean. for most within a 200 mile trip, on good highways.

I would be more than happy heading back to LG again...It was a good haul up there but well worth it to me.

Heck, a bunch of us Starcraft guys are talking about a get together, and that would be a 6 to 9 hour drive!!!!

Re: Florida Get Together 2010

As for traveling that's what I'm building my Baja for is to drag it around with me and see things. (and as a tender when I get my live aboard).

The big problem with Griffen is there is no beach.

It's a nasty ditch!

Granted we didn't have our boat with us but no we won't be going back there, nice camp grounds (the end we were on).

No I think we really need to find a place with a beach.

The girls want to lay out in the sun (and some of us are all for that)

We could hang out as a group and ski and tube, while others go off and fish.

Somewhere that adds to the community thing of it not separate trips down the ditch out to the lake.

A beach or at least somewhere we could all raft up on a bar and still fish and play.

Craig, I 100% agree with you. but they are hard to find. a nice sandy beach, i have no problems beaching my boats. can you arrange accomomdations on disappearing island, Ponch Inlet. i would be willing to camp on the island.
