There were 2 types of anti siphon valves. Aluminum and brass. The aluminum ones have given problems in the past. The brass ones are the better ones. If your fuel pressure gets low at full throttle that could be the source. Try to have the 6 gallon tank ready to switch over when you run the boat.
The Rodchester that you now have is a real marine carburetor?
with the alu anti siphon valve I had a problem restricting fuel flow, the engine would start and idle fine and rev up in neutral but wouldn't pull the boat up on plane. My mechanic replaced it with a brass one back in 2004 haven't had a problem since. I would not eliminate the anti siphon with a standard barbed fitting, if the fuel pump is lower than the level of the tank where the pick up is, and that fuel line leaks, the anti siphon will shut off the flow of fuel. Otherwise enough gas could siphon out to cause a real dangerous situation (explosive fuel vapors in the bilge). If you put a regular barbed fitting on there, take a look at how high your fuel pump is. If lower than the outlet of the tank, replace that with a brass anti siphon valve.

It is electric choke. So that's null and void then
yep but are you sure that it is a marine carb? Do you have a mechanical fuel pump? If so is there a yellow tygon hose running from the overflow nipple on the pump to a nipple on the air horn of the carb, or carb body? If not, then it is probably not a marine carb.
See it in this pic? that's the old hose I replaced it with a new one soon after doing the top end overhaul.

When I bought both the carb and mechanical pump I was told yes marine. The pump is a double diaphragm unit buy has no hose to carb. I believe I have asked these questions at some point on here and what I've got was right. My pvc however goes to vac port at base of carb not like yours

Most marine carbs have J tubes for the bowl vents and the nipple on the air horn or carb body for the mechancial pump overflow.
Rochester Q-Jets don't have a J tube but the tube is cut in such a way to keep gas overflow from running out of the carb, it is facing the venturis.

in this pic you can see the nipple for the overflow tygon hose right above the carb fuel inlet....

in this pic of a Holley 4160 you can see the J tubes for the bowl vents and the nipple for the overflow on the air horn next to the throttle lever. If you blow this pic up you can see the stamp for marine approval on the air horn....
with remanufactured carbs you have to be very careful, it is actually better to rebuild what you have if the carb is in good shape internally.

Ironically I have seen new Quick Fuel marine carbs that have J tubes but no nipple on the air horn. They do have a vacuum fitting on the throttle body though.

The anti siphon valves are threaded into the 90* elbow on top of the tank fuel outlet.
Have you ever checked to see if there is a small cylindrical filter inside the tube that goes into the tank? There is a good chance that there is one, you need to remove the tube and make sure to remove it.

I pulled the brass 90...it had a screen on the bottom that to me looked squished on the end to the tube. There is an anti siphon valve there as well. However I dinged the 90 and now need to retread it.

Don’t rethread it. Get a new one. The last place you don’t need a fuel leak

Very true. It almost seems like it was to long to have the screen all smushed

And you can buy a Holley Marine 2 bbl carb brand new; better than remanufactured which is what you’ll get from Flying Fish Carbs. Yeah new costs more….
0-80320-1 I believe is the # of the Holley 2 bbl calibrated for the 302 cu in Ford.

All 188s came only with Holley carburetors. Someone may have taken the adapter from a 233 which only came with Rodchesters atop the Holley pattern adapter that mounted the Rodchester.

If you are buying a carb, I would go 4 barrel over 2 barrel myself

However there is not much to a Holley 2300. It is literally half a Holley 4150.
