Naahh. I like the looks of older boats. None of this Euro transom, integrated platforms, rounded windshields. I like straight lines and sharp angles.

Don't know if there are others, but there is a huge harbor, marina, fuel dock, bar/restaurant, and yacht club, just up the shore from the campground on Petenwell. Looks like they rent out slips by the day also, $20.

Looks like there is a bar/restraurant/motel about 1/2 mile from the campground, if anyone would rather not camp.



So, if there are no objections, .. shall we do Petenwell?

I can probably get off work any weekend in July or August, if I submit my vacation request by next Wed.
It just depends if I have to use 1 vacation day, or 3.

It looks like everyone has a weekend that they cannot make it, so how do we decide?

castle rock has a better campground on the east side i worked at pettenwell and castle rock pettwell is kinnda old and quit. castle is more party and more sites

i think the fishing is better at the rock' i lived 5 miles from these lakes. 4, 4 years the lakes are about a dam apart !so if you dont like one you can load the boat ,and be at the other in less then . 10 min but i think there are county parks on both sides of the lakes rosco do you kinow if the bombing range is still used i'll try and find out if there bombing in july that would be the weekend i vote for. and the punctuation will show up next week

Well, you guys have been no help at all in picking the date.
You all want me to be the bad guy, huh?, since someone will not be able to attend no matter which weekend is picked.

Hmmmm, perhaps I should try calling the reservation office to check on site availability?

Well Since no one else has replyed. My dates are pretty much wide open in July and also Aug. but the weekends that my wife doesnt work are as followed. July 7, 21 Aug 4, 18.

I chances are will be coming regardless if she comes or not. So do what we need to and get the dates booked.

Checking site availability might be a good idea. Would hate to pick a date and find they are booked solid.

The only summer plans that we have made are for August 3, 4, 5. We are open for any other dates.

I called the number on that web page.
It was a recording, that told me to dial a different number.
Dialed the new number, it was a recording that told me to leave a message and they would call me back.
They didn't call before I had to leave for work.
I just got home from work a few minutes ago, and if they did call me, they didn't leave a message.

I heard back from the park manager at Petenwell today.

They only have 5 sites that they reserve !! The other several hundred are on a first come basis.
There are also several large camping areas that are not divided into specific sites, but they do have elec pods scattered throughout.

He is sending me a new brochure, as the map on the website does not show all the updates they have done recently.

He said there is plenty of space, and the park never really gets full.
He also said we should be able to all camp in one area without much of a problem, as people will generally stay clear of your area if you let them know you are expecting more to join your group.

It sounds like it should work, but how will I know you guys will show up if you don't have to make a commitment/reservation. 8)

What do you all think?
Should we try it?

I was a little concerned about wild animals lurking near the camp sites last year. Here we were sitting around the campfire and all of a sudden someone yelled that a bear was walking around. A girly boy sounding shriek was heard from one of the Daryl 's tents .
