Re: From Admin - Will you accept another forums system change?

speed, search, member list needs to be reactivated so we can reach each other. posting pictures should be easier, right now i have to back space the line in the box in order to post a picture.. when you log on it should log on to all forums, as i keep mine in 'my favorties'. it needs to be computer challenged friendly. i agree with a test run, and notifcation. i have already contacted some of the old members, that will come back when the change is made. GO FOR IT. the search function in the store also needs improving. you search for something and miscellaneous, unrelated stuff appears. also the PM function need to work, i've tried to send many Pm's that do go thru.

Re: From Admin - Will you accept another forums system change?

i'm not an IT/web guy so I don't know the whole story behind internet forums, servers, software etc. but I do go to a lot of web forums for all kinds of information and I have to say out of all the forums I've been to, the one I still like the most is the www.ls2.com/forum. If you were to set things up exactly like they are set up, I think you would do good.

nicest thing I like is you put your mouse pointer over the thread title, and a popup comes up showing the first 2 sentences of the first post. They also have gobs of icons to use, the layout is easy and simple, and it's always fast, personal messages, email via the forum, and it has the search function.

HMMMMMM, I would have thought that I would have seen alot more "STAY THE COURSE" comments here.......:$
But , all I'm seeing is "CUT & RUN!"......d:)
There is certainly room for improvement with regard to speed & search function......
I say "CHANGE IS GOOD!"
P.S......Bring back the rolleyes & razz emoticons......
I miss them........JK

As an iBoats/forum newb I can't relate to your old system, however I have become very fond if this forum, it's characters and the wealth of knowledge to be mined within. As a total computer tool myself, I can't distinguish between a hard to navigate site and my own ignorance (although searches are beyond frustrating) - so do what ya gotta do, but try to keep us newbs who wanna earn our stripes in the loop please

I agree with the post by Solittle. Preserving the content of the old threads would be important to me, even if only as a dead archive.

It ain't flashy, but the system for BoatUS seems to be very stable. - http://www.webwizforums.com

The new system that BoatingABC just upgraded to is plenty fancy. But the server side overhead might not fit your needs. And there were some login issues - http://www.ubbcentral.com/index.php

As so many others have posted here, it's your shop. Do what you feel you need to.

Or go into your browser preferences and set a minimum type size for all web sites you visit.

Well, maybe Windows doesn't have that feature.

Re: From Admin - Will you accept another forums system change?

I have no clue as to the software or hardware required for a board like this, but I certainly agree that the current version used here is the worst of any boards I visit or am a member of. That's not meant to sound like criticism as such - I do find the content and advise here to be very helpful and will continue to use this site regardless of the problems. But if you can change, I would be in favor of it.

Just as an aside - I am also a member of www.chevytalk.org - they recently changed to a new software that is very fast and easy to use. I don't know anything about it other than it seems to work well - especially the search feature.

OK.. just WHY should out of the dozens of Stock forums, engine forums, and God know what else I visit, should I have to change for just this one software program run here? You asked for opinions, and I gave mine. I simply don't like this software. Its slow (I'm on cable too), and well, I see better on MANY other forums. JMHO.

Font size in the reply entry box is plenty big enuf for me. But my display is set at 800x600. Sounds like a display setting issue for this software?
