It seems the carter electric is widely used so I suppose that will be the one, while I appreciate that a mech pump is superior dependability I also want ease of installation and accessibility. I also will move the separator to a better area as well, I figure if I carry a spare pump I could probably change it out in 5 minutes and be moving again. Accessibility is really limited on this boat and I will move anything I can from below the manifolds.. Much thanks to all for your input it is much appreciated. There are several other issues with this craft, in addition to the pump, so I'm sure I will be back for more help. someone has disconnected the interrupt switch, lower shift cable is dripping water, gimbal bearing is raising cane etc., etc. etc. But the engine does run. It was a gift, but not one I would buy. I dislike I/O drives and prefer inboards or outboards.

I thought I might take one more crack at the mech pump and wanted to see what you guys thought. I can only work with one hand and I can't see the pump area. I thought about using studs but the pump arm won't go thru the mount plate. but if I install the plate with the pump as one unit it would work but I don't know if the pump arm would compress and pop under the push rod as I tighten the nuts on the studs.. What ya think?

I gave up on the mechanical pump, shoot it was hard enough installing the block off plate! I installed the carter pump where the water separator was and moved the separator to the bulk head just above the fuel tank outlet. got it all plumbed in and hot wired the pump to check my work.. all seems good there. I have about finished the wiring with much help from wiring diagrams and posts by Rick Stevens, Achris, Bondo, etc, etc. Thanks much to all here..
I ended up with a 3 pole oil pressure switch which seems to offer a good way of powering the relay.. one pole is open and the other is closed and the 3rd goes to the relay. I mounted the relay next to the starter solenoid which I hope to pull the run and start wires for the oil switch..

I have decided to do the conversion to electric and would like recommendations on which pump to get. I can see no way to mount it below the fuel tank so I would need one with some sucking capability as I plan to mount it just above the tank on the back of the bench seat. which would put it around 14 inches above the bottom of the tank.
Thanks
i am also converting o electric fuel pump. im installing a vortec 350 5.7 to replace my blown non vortec 5.7 in my 96 sea ray 210.

im using a 1490 marine carb.

i purchased this fuel pump, edlebrock 5-7psi fuel pump

i also purchased this fuel pump relay kit that comes with everything needed. relay, wiring harness, oil pressure safety switch, starter wiring, brass TEE fitting for oil pressure sending unit.

should be relatively painless to install

That isn't a marine fuel pump. It's a fire hazard if installed in a boat.

thanks, what do you recommend then? chevy 350 5.7 just like the OP has, need one that is 5-7 psi. when I search google, amazon, west marine... i either get listings of mechanical fuel pump replacements or in tank marine electric fuel pumps.

thanks Scott

that one shows its 24 V not 12 V.

also whats the difference between that one and the edlerock one? I expected the marine one to have a 3rd overflow port that connected tubing back to the carb? and that one also only has input and output not third port.

try googling carter marine fuel pump thats what lead me to summit.... https://www.summitracing.com/parts/crt-p4389 . None of the electric fuel pumps have the overflow tube as they dont have a diagraphm to rupture like a mechanical pump that requires somewhere to fuel safetly go.

As nola pointed out the edlebrock one is not marine rated which means from a gas leakage and spark suppression/electrical standpoint they are not designed or rated to be in boats

Sierra...web search... Under 200$ last time I bought and no headaches. You will have to add special oil sender designed to electric pumps.

It runs. I will attempt a picture, can't promise anything but here goes..View attachment 343847
Is that marine fuel hose? I can't see on the line where it states USCG Type A1 fuel hose, which is fire rated.

Type A1 is for lines that will have gas in it all the time. There is also Type A2, which has a lower fire rating and is used for tank vent and fill lines.

pics look fine to me on a computer.

what pump did you go with?
Never posted a pic here in all the years I was active because I was on dial up until a few years ago so its new to me..Those pics looked huge on my computer..

The pump I used was a carter universal marine pump. P4594. it's 12 volt 6-8 psi, 72 gals an hour.

Good eye Eric, I didn't have enough A1 to do all of the hose so I used what I had for the pump to carb section and just regular from filter to pump. I have some a1 coming to replace that..

i really like this setup and routing, i think you have boat extremely similar to mine.

i have a sea ray 210 5.7 and you have a 220 with a 57 it looks like.

what did you bolt that fuel pump to on the engine? is that a mounting boss/stud on the exhaust manifold?

here is how I mounted mine for now but i think ill change it to match yours.

yep, my pump bracket is mounted to the bracket on the manifold that the filter was originally mounted to, I had to drill a couple of extra holes in the pump bracket which I mounted up side down for ease. then I mounted the filter to the bulkhead just above the gas tank. Tried to keep things as low as possible with in reason..
electric pumps aren't the best suckers..
