1. Are gas prices going to put a cramp in your boating style?
2. Are you going to be spending less time out at the lake?
3. Do you have a gas budget that you follow?
4. Do you not worry about gas prices and just fill up and go?
5. Do you purchase Gas from a Marina, Service Station or both?

My Answers

1. A little. I will spend less time doing water sports and just floating around, swimming and enjoying family time. We are good with this.
2. Maybe not less time but we will go to the closer lakes.
3. Haven't had the boat long enough to develope a budget.
4. I wish.
5. Service Station. No need to go to a marina. I don't burn enough gas during an outing
to have to get gas on the Lake.

Thanks.

1) Nope
2) Nope
3) Nope
4) If it needs gas it gets filled
5) 95% comes from a service station - fill up on way to lake. Only time I buy gas on the water is when we go to a rented place where the boat is on the lake for a week.

Compared to the price of the boat and all the food/beer - gas is cheap ;)

oldjeep compared to your 3.0l vs my 5.7 v8 I can see why you answered the way you did.

Thanks for the replies.

1. No we don't have any bad habits so boating will be OK for us.

2. No we will go when ever we feel like it & can go as long as our company is making $$$$s that is. We like to go out mid day then go to Marina Restaurant to eat

3. No we just have one rule every time we go out we fill up so it is a little less painful. So far every time we fill it is $50.00 - $75.00 (current $4.46 gal) depending on cost of fuel & how long we was out. Worst case is 50 gallons though I guess.

4. Just Fill up & go since I can't change the price.

5. We are docked at Marina so not practical to buy fuel anywhere else. We pay more all the time due to being at Marina but probably works out since we don't Trailer so we have no wear & tear expenses on vehicle or trailer. Also save on fuel for TV & don't have to wait in line at ramp not to mention we will use boat more just going to Marina & jumping in.

Re: Gas Prices "another Gas Price thread"

1. Not really a Cramp... I have a floating living room so dropping the anchor and chilling is fine and if I cruise below WOT $40 worth of gas lasts all day.
2. Nope...
3. Nope
4. Depends on how empty or full my 55gal tank is. I keep it over half tank. I rarely fill it up. I will ussualy burn 1/4 per day on the lake.
5. Service Station unless we are running low from a full day of tubing.

Short answer - gas prices will have NO impact on our boating habits whatsoever.

They will however no doubt have an impact on how often I drive to see the in-laws though. I am hoping the admiral won't notice the contradiction..........

At $4+ a gallon I'm not going to be doing any 20 mile long WOT runs with my jet boat!! 60 mph is a blast, but not when I compute the cost per minute of doing it... Going to spend a lot more time floating and hanging out on sand bars.

Hasn't changed my boating yet, but my mode of transportation to the store and work has. Sometimes I even sneak down the side of the road to the hardware store.

No
No
No, we are fortunate to not need a budget
No worries
Service station since it is a trailer boat

If we only had our two stroke bowrider gas hog, I would answer differently to #1. It seems every other year I either regret buying the v6 as opposed to the v8 option on my sig boat then the next year I'm happy about it.

Re: Gas Prices "another Gas Price thread"

I buy my gas at the service station and haul it in 4 jerry cans to the boat. I try to keep it topped off so it's not as painful. However, I know I could get better "mileage" with less fuel (80 gallon tank).

The prices won't affect me much but I will be aware of gas consumption, and probably run a little slower to and from the fishing spots, not idle as much, try to take more direct courses when I go long distances. Which I should be doing regardless.

When my daughters and their friends use it, I will welcome their adding some gas, some sweat equity, or leaving me a few beers. I will want them to be aware of the cost, etc. but at the same time, I take great pleasure in having a boat for them and their friends to use, and do not want to discourage them. My parents did the same thing for my sisters and me, even keeping the boats around after they quit using them, although as teenagers, skiing and all, we bought the gas (and used a lot). At 35 cents a gallon!

No
No
No
No Just fill it up each time before using so i always have a full tank
I use a service station unless at the lake all day.

In Wisconsin we only get 5 or so decent months of rec. boating so i want to get as much use as possible... And i dont really have any other hobbies or habits that cost money.

Re: Gas Prices "another Gas Price thread"

On the bright side, today, FOX News has been reporting that gas prices are predicted to drop $.50 to $.75 per gallon by the end of summer. So we'll see. That would make the the answer to several of those questions easier to answer.

Not going to hit me either. Preparing for $5.50+ on the lake this year. Marina purchased the next load for $4.70/gal so we'll see.

Doesn't cost anything to anchor!

Thanks for the Replies.

Having a tow vehicle like mine See sig is the reasons for going to closer lakes. Not the boats Fault.

1. Not as much as my wife has
2. I guess you could say yes since I've not boated in a lake in over 16 years.
3. No
4. It is what it is. I just fill up and go. Went thru 100 gallons in 2.5 days during a tournament last week
5. Service Station

Like the marina guy said when I paid my $1300 season fee and asked him if boaters were worried about gas prices.... "if the boater can afford the slip fee they can afford the gas"

Don;t talk like that the Marinas may get the idea we can also pay them more since we can afford the fees

1. No
2. We will be on the river the same amount if not more.
3. No
4. Just fill it up, gotta have gas to drive.
5. Gas station, only if we are on vacation and we have to get it because the boat is already in the water.
