The price of gas is getting out of control and our government is not going to do anything about it. Why should they Bush has investments in oil. I just feel so sorry for the young family trying to make ends meet. Where I live if you work you must drive a good deal to get to work, I drive 50 min. each way. so how is the young family with children on minimum wage supposed to make it. We need to bring back the 60s's and have protests against big oil. Sorry for the rant, but I just get so angry with big oil making millions on the working man. At one time I was the young man trying to make ends meet and had to work two jobs. My heart goes out to all the young families trying to get somewhere.

Re: Gas prices

To start with I would never have gotten our country into the situation they are in now. They started out going after Bib laden, well it looks as if they are not looking too hard for him now. If they would have spent the money for him that they spent on this war he would be dead now. But there are greater minds at work here then mine.

Re: Gas prices

What do you want, Bob? The price of oil is set by traders and by demand, not by GWB.

The only ones who can bring down prices are the consumers. That's you (and me), not the President.

We both (and many millions more) made choices based on assumptions about what gas would cost. Now we face consequences of those decisions. Don't blame it on George.

Live green, grow yellow. We can get past this dependency on oil.

Re: Gas prices

We use oil for a lot more than just gasoline, therefore we will always be dependant on oil. Like plastics, heating oil, solvents, chemicals, and fertilizers to grow that yellow corn.

So you are going to just tell people to stop using gasoline?
Kind of like telling kids not to eat candy.
And more farm acreage used for corn fuel, the less available for food, so prices will rise there.

The only currently viable solution has always been nuclear powered electricity, but even that doesn't solve all the fuel needs, because elec power is not practical for everything.

The solution is the free market. When alternatives are profitable, the market will supply them.

Quit fighting a politacol war and finish it. Do like the Great Britians and the Romans would do. When you run out of what you need at home take over a country and use their resources. Are they gonna pay us back for all of the money we have spent there? Heck no. It doesn't sound pretty and I hate a bully however drastic times require drastic measures. Bombs away gang, I know its coming.

I say Screw what the international community thinks. We are over there, our Kids are dying for this, we are rebuilding yet another country you dang right we are taking the Oil! A least till it pays for what this war cost us. It's called the spoils of war! That would lower prices for awhile and in the meen time full steam ahead on alturnative development.

Re: Gas prices

I think we should take the profit incentive out of oil - like electricity. Utilities are limited in the amount thay can make on electricity and while electricity ain't cheap everywhere it certainly doesn't have the drastic swings that gas does. At least not at the consumer lever. Gas is no longer a luxury, our very lives depend upon being able to get to work and that takes gas. If it was regulated, it might be more stable. I hate the thought of government interference most of the time, but for items like gas maybe it would be best. Any thoughts?

Yes I have a thougt, you are nuts. The government cant do anything without screwing it up. And when the government regulates it, that means it gets to tell the oil companies what to charge, even if it means selling it at a loss. How long ya think the oil companys will stay around if they are being
told to lose money?

Re: Gas prices

Well it's not from the lack of light crude(the supply is actually good )it's the refineries that can't produce the unleaded fuel fast enough. They still aren't up to speed from the hurricanes and a lot of the others are reducing production or closing down for spring maintenance.
I heard there hasn't been a new refinery built in North America in 20 years and it takes 7-8 years from getting the first approval to start up.

Re: Gas prices

People, I can see prices going up for whatever reason, but this 20 cent raise overnight is unreal.
That's what happens around here.
One day it's 2.30, the next morning it will be 2.50. Stays that way for a week or so and then it will come back down. That is what has me confused.

Supply & Demand, the entire world needs to start developing alternate fuel sources. There is no endless supply of oil, yet the global population is rapidly increasing. Just how many cows can you put on a parcel of land before they have used up all resources and destroyed it? I wonder how many of these possible alternates have already been "bought out" by rich oil companies????

I agree completely. Gasoline is no different than natural gas and electricity. Why should those utilities be regulated and gasoline not? If you're against regulating gas you should be against regulating all other utilities as well.

It would have nothing to do with oil companies running at a loss. If they were limited to a certain amount of profit that means they would ALWAYS make that certain amount of profit, never more, never less.

Re: Gas prices

It's not GWB's, or the gov't's fault (SEE, JB, I don't really blame GWB for everything)

We all make choices about where we live and where we work, and how we get from one to the other.

Maybe Wally World will have a sale on bicycles soon!
