Where can i find replacement plug wires for the new/used coils i just got?
Automotive style wires are built differently right? So not ideal to use them?
Is there a "universal" style Marine plug wire?

Should i even worry about changing them? are they like a car, in which they should be changed as routine mantainence after sitting
for a couple years?

IMHO even automotive wires get changed WAY more often than needed..... if it runs good and the wires aren't arcing I wouldn't worry about them.
I'm either gonna upgrade the center console to a tandem or more likely just sell the trailer for a nice profit to use for fixi?g up boats.

What could i seal the deck with to help keep water out?
the fiberglass is wearing thin on some spots im sure its not doing its job.
It was wet but has been under a cover for a few weeks now. should be almost dry if not, dry.

Could i just sand the deck a little and kinda "paint" on poly resin to seal it?
please help im gonna fix the hole in floor tommorrow!

Poly resin is fairly useless without glass. Epoxy can be used without glass but it's expensive.

So i jumped in it today, took all the carpet out, all the seats, brackets etc., measured and cut floor again to exact size, grinded away the
tabbed bulkhead/seat base, removed all interior panels for rebuild/recover.

I realized the bulkead is NOT 2X10, its plyood like everything else.
It has rotted around the holes but the other side is coated in a white bildge paint/coating. I didnt wanna cut all the wood out from that bildge area in the center. (its under the middle seat)

The guys at west marine told me to do it like this ...So i sealed everything around the drain holes with 5200, then laid the deck with supports i built from 2x6 layed them across the strong glassed part of the hull near the stringers. This is also where the bulkheads rest.

Will that be ok for a few years (hopefully)?

I used csm mat with polyresin, applied it with a 4in brush & a squigie (spell?)
I did about 3-4 coats of resin, letting them tack in between.

How long until the resin should be fully cured enough to walk on and or lay carpet?

I am just hoping this will last a while until i get another hull...

Each of these coats of resin also included cloth, correct?

Did the last coat of resin & cloth had wax in it to seal out oxygen & allow the resin to fully cure?

Until it dried non-tacky (or until cured would be better) you kept the repair & surrounding area above 60 degrees?

Might let it sit out in full sun on Sat if it's in the 70's, it might cure tomorrow..... W/out the wax or full warm sun, it'll likely be slightly tacky for a couple days.................

OOOO crap....I messed up! I only used one mat as this is how i seen it on a youtube video...
What does this mean for me now?
If i didnt have glass, hardener and 5200 on my gloves, i would have had the laptop with me while i did it....
letting yall know what i was doing.

Is one layer of CSM gonna last/add strength etc?

Yeah, resin only, not sufficient. After the 1st coat w/ glass the rest of the resin is just extra w/ no real value.

Which ez mentioned earlier:

Since I have no way of knowing (or seeing) how you installed the patch, or what's supporting the patch, I have no way of knowing whether 1 layer of CSM will be sufficient.

BTW: unfortunately, polyester fiberglass resin isn't really waterproof, so many repairs have multiple layers of resin & glass, to add waterproofing & strength..............

I cant get my pics to upload. i took some of the supports i made and the patch while getting glassed.
It says the pics are too large. Im not sure how to resize them.


The patch, even with no glass was very strong. I have the 2x6's laying horizontially next to the bulkhead.
with ply on top,that also tucks snug under other part of deck where they meet.

its strong Im sure, but Is the bottom of th hull strong enough to lay a support on? Or would it break the hull?
Mine are on this raised glass area near the stringers, then the decks screwed to them.

Lastly, If that bulkhead was just starting to rot, (hopefully sealing them will stop/slow rot) How important is it to the structure?
Like could it cause broken hull=sinking etc.?

Its still very solid most everywhere else and its all glassed in with the seat base which goes across whole deck.

Went outside and looked at the boat this morning around 10am.
The resin seems fairly hard, i can still smell it some.
I was hard enough to walk on, not sticky at all.

the repair is ROCK solid! It strengthened the entire floor,

My only question now is still , Is it ok that i layed the floor supports on the bottom of hull? Is this strong enough for walking on?

Open a photobucket acct, upload your pix there & in the photobucket settings choose auto-size pictures..........

There's a post pix thread in Don's list of how too's, a sticky at the top of the resto forum homepage.. I'm pretty sure it has step by step directions to post pix.

This hull & it's deck was solid, and passed what another iboater thought was a rigorous & thorough inspection:

Fortunately, it happened at the ramp, and not underway. Each boat behaves differently under widely diverse conditions. Most parts of a boat in contact w/ the hull & stringers: bulkheads, deck, consoles, boxes & seats attached to 2 of those all act together as a system to provide what the manufacturer & boat designer a specific ride characteristic, and loading & unloading stress as it's applied to any 1 part of the system.

In the limited knowledge I've got, too much flex is not good in most areas of that system. No flex in some portions isn't good either, it can create stress cracking from point loading when the hull flexes & the stringers or bulkheads don't..... Fiberglass has some inherent 'give' that in combination w/ it's additional weight & construction methods, yields a better ride character then similar sized & shaped aluminum hulls (which are often MUCH lighter too).

Lookup the pix posting directions & try to upload some from photobucket. Having the pix large & in your thread instead of an attachment that must be opened, like the 1 I posted above will be much more beneficial............

I just noticed a few spots under the hull that have hairline cracks in gel coat. 6-10 inches long.
What is this caused from? Old gel coat? Hull flexing? ROT ??!!??

ok,I finished all the interior panels and im ready to lay carpet/re-install the interior.

the bildge area has light cracks near mount holes and seems like the bilge paint is cracked.
I chipped away some of it about quarter size,
the wood is dry but its like a redish color.
Is that just the kind of wood thats used or what?
should I just repaint with bildge paint?

please help as im getting close to being water test ready...
I also had a friend that builds and races boats, look at the transom too n he said it was plenty strong.
I was hanging on the engine bouncing the boat up n down off the ground in front...no flex.

This should all be good news right?
