I've noticed that the press around the Country is reporting that (since the election) gun sales are up significantly anywhere from 20% to 700% (depending on store). At least two stores have reporting selling out - one in Texas, one locally (MD).
The last time I saw such a frenzy is when bans were impending.

Nothing to do with the election. It happens anytime the economy goes sour. People are afraid and insecure. Having a gun makes them feel safer.

Too bad. If they don't know what they are doing they are actually in more danger.

I'm pretty much convinced the possibility of there being a ban on the sale of semi auto arms might be helping a tad as well. It sure seems to stimulate sales up here when our gov starts talking about banning guns.

Things are most likely going to get worse as far as economy and other things that I can't mention on here and it is something that my grandfather said was going to happen in the future, he has been dead for nearly 10 years now. As far as the economy getting back on it's feet, I don't see it happening for 4 more years . I was discussing with somebody in the past, this somebody said it will come down to us having to protect our belongings and loved ones in our own homes, according to this somebody he believed theft is going to be on the rise.

It is amazing and scarry to think about some peoples prophicies, some I believe might just come true, take my grandfather's for instance. I talked to a man that believed that in the future man will be living off the land/farm, there would not be any grocery stores to buy food, this man is an american indian.

Back to the subject at hand.... Just the other day I mentioned to my unhappy brother "I wonder how this is going to effect gun sales", he was wondering the same thing. Even my brother is looking to purchase a new gun.

Wild, I think the economy will start to come back year after next. We have a lot farther to fall though, that's for certain. Without getting into politics, EDIT

That was definitely getting into politics. JB

Re: Gun Sales Up

Guns... guns... guns.... guns.... and more guns.... bigger guns... faster guns... my gun holds more bullets than yours guns.... Oh boy.
To set the record straight. I am a gun owner (legal) and have no problems with a gun. In my mind it is nothing more than a tool. I do take major exception to the idiots out there with guns. When I say idiots... i don't just mean the criminals the street thugs and such. But I also mean people who want to own/have a gun, and think they know everything about them because of hollywood. And think they can just go out an buy one.
People need to grow up. A gun is tool... and not a toy. Believe it or not... guns actually do come with responsibilities and reprocussions... I live in Mass.... and I believe that we have the 2nd most strictest gun laws, with Cali taking #1. There are a few laws on our books that I do think, as a responsible gun owner, are foolish. But the majority of them I do agree with.

If this is going to be a discussion about banning them or keeping them... then the thread will surely get locked.

So i'll start a sure to be threadlocker of my own. As a poll, with a show of hands, NO OPINIONS, but just a vote.

Who is in favor of firearms licensing with an actual real training course, both classroom and range/live fire. Along with a felony check. Vote for A

Who is in favor of "when you turn a certain age... 16.. 18.. 21.." it is your right to own/carry a firearm. Vote for B

Who is in favor of banning all together firearms for civillain purposes. Vote C

That's all.... This one is going to get locked.... so see you all in the next thread!! :)

We have been down this road before......I'm comfortable with the what I have and there is no need to panic buy. I am one of those people who has felt safe and will continue to despite the scare.

If anything, think of the people buying now are all being kept on record....

Bob,
That's pretty much the way I feel too.
For the record, I own guns, I hunt, I'm not a fanatic, I've been on the wrong end of one (and have the scars to prove it), and I would protect my family if necessary and without hesitation.

The last time I noticed a mass gun buying frenzy in the media was in the late 80's by the farmers when they were all being foreclosed.

I agree with JB. When the bank & finance industry crashed, sales jumped world wide, up to 700%, depending on the country, the next week. Happens everytime people get scared.

Americans kind of forget that there is a world outside our borders, and although we have an influence on it, we are not the only thing that does.

We are looking at a worldwide depression direct in the face, and people are worried & insecure. Changes in political parties in America, has no influence on gun sales in other countries, but the bank & finance crises and world economy do.

In Germany people are installing new locks, cameras, alarm systems, and running out & buying tear gas and pepper spray, for lack of other choices. Even the sales of crossbows and hunting knives are skyrocketing here.

Seems to me that everybody panic buying now is people that haven't been properly prepared for the last 50+ years.

I am waiting for the day the gov't starts to register all ammunition sales too. I bet the high prices go even higher.

I was shooting the breeze with a couple neighbors last night. One mentioned he was looking for an M1 Carbine - not due to recent events. He went on to say that he has been to three guns shows the past three weekends (doing another this weekend) in search. Prices have been in the $600-700 neighborhood.
Me thinks it's time to sell mine!
I kick myself for not selling my AK when they spiked at $2K some time back when they were talking about banning them.

I don't think this will last too long though (especially with the gun stores selling out!) - it never does.

Keep your head down Benny, and let me know if you need help spending that last shot paycheck on a boat when you get back. If you are coming through Frankfurt on your way, send me a PM, and I'll buy you a coffee at the airport.

Guns won't be banned, but you will see stricter gun legislation with the left running things for sure. That's the reason I'm hearing at the gun range. I've been wanting a Saiga 410 semi-auto with pistol grip for home protection. Will probably get one after the holidays (if it's not to late).
