Yikes!!:eek::eek:
His insurance company is going to love him. I wonder if his insurance is going to say the truck damaged the boat or the boat damaged the truck?

For all we know they may have used transom and bow tie downs. From the picture, that truck hit that pole hard. Straps wouldn't have stopped it...

Re: Has this one been here before

Hey billy one time it took me too long to get to the lake and i can tell that it took to long because when i got there it was gone. So i never really got there cause when i did "get there" there was no lake! So it was tough cause i never really got there cause it was gone! Goes to show you what can happen if you dont get there quick enough! What can end up happening is that when you get there you never get anywhere cause the lake is gone! So moral of the story is: if the lake is gone then you dont really go anywhere cause when you get there you never really get there cause its gone!

This only hapens in Georgia though.

Yea thats true about Georga, but im pretty sure that you can play around with your tie-downs in any state. I just played with my tie-downs last nite. They are like 2 rachet straps (come alongs). They used to be camouflage, but ive played with them so much the color has come off of them. Now they are like a green color. I think that im going to go and buy some more tie-downs that are camouflage. I can keep those on the boat and then just keep the old ones to play with. The only problem that i have with that if i put tie-downs on the boat the lake might be gone again when i get there cause of those tie-downs. Not sure what im going to do but for now at least im going to play with my tie-downs kkfor a couple of hours.

I bet that boat was tied down. Most tie downs are pretty flimsy.

Yea most are pretty flimsy but those ones are not really much fun to play with. I just got a new set of tie-downs this morning. Im off work today and its rainy outside so i think that im going to just sit inside and play with my new tie-downs. At least for a couple of hours anyways. Im going to play with my new tie-downs whyle im drinking my morning coffee and watching TV. These new tie-downs are really nice. My old ones were so worn out from playing with them. I though they were going to fall apart if i played with them any more. Just so that you know that you have to be careful playing with your tie-downs, cause you never know when the lake is going to be gone! im going to still play with my tie-downs though cause its winter and if the lake is gone again from it its ok cause i wasnt going to fish anyway. Its too cold to take the boat out, so ill just sit here and play with these new tie-downs. See ya guys later! Hope you enjoyed listening to me talk about the new tie-downs.

I don't know that tiedowns would have even kept the boat on the trailer... It looks like he hit that pole pretty hard... probably 35-40mph... that generates a LOT of force.

On the up side, at least he doesn't have to stop to reposition the boat... just go on like that. :D

It looks like the trailer took it real bad too, the bow stop and tongue are toast, either a combination of the weight of the boat coming to rest all on the tongue and the impact. My guess is that tie downs may have helped, but they were not likely going to stop it, even if the bow eye and rear tie downs held.

I always wondered what could or would happen if I forgot the straps. I had an idea but now I know. Can you believe I know of people who tow 300 or more miles without any Transom straps. Many more Boaters do not have the safety chain on the Bow either. I wouldn't tow my boat two blocks without all the straps. It only takes one bad bump. I value my boat more than that. That's one of the first things I put on my Boat trailer, even before adding a spare tire and wheel. I shudder to meet them on the highway. That's just plain ignorant. Accidents are forgivable but deliberate neglect for safety equipment is inexcusable.

Hey, Drew...will a 30-pack beer produce a lake you can float your boat on ? Mighty big packs you have there in Georgia. :)

looks to me like that ram hit the pole first and if thats the case it looks like it hit hard enough to completely bend the trailer tongue, either way i dont think the straps would have held the boat in place anyway with that kind of impact.

Two things and not to be mean or sarcastic but informative.
1- You obviously jumped on this Thread without knowing the facts. There was an original post by this Boat Owner a year ago. I don't remember the original thread. You can both find it and be entertained reading the the different "Stupid Human Tricks" in the Forum Jump below. It was sent around the internet and confirmed as true by snopes.com so the title of this thread "Has this one been here before" The answer is emphatically YES!!! IT HAS!! :D

2- You obviously have no Idea how much force 3,000 Lbs has unattached or given the right/certain circumstances. On a damp road surface 3,000 Lbs will push a truck trying to brake with a boat and trailer in tow without trailer brakes through an intersection with the truck only traveling 30 MPH. :(

I used to know the formula and someone else on I Boats will know it. But it goes something like this. Weight is tripled when trying to stop or Weight x 3 = force. That 3,000 boat and trailer had a force of 9,000 Lbs.

Now if I remember the original post the owner stated he had left the boat ramp and tried to stop quickly when the traffic light changed to red resulting in the boat sliding forward onto the truck and pushing the truck into the pole.

If you want entertainment and education for hours to come go to "Jump forum" down below this page and start reading. Watch the video clips of some stupid Human Tricks. :)

Chuck, I have to agree with you on the not going two blocks without the tie downs installed. Where I store my boat and the location of the ramp we use is less than a half mile away.
All necessary safety equipment is attached even though the roads are private gravel surfaces.
I don't believe I can afford that type of liability for being lazy.

A bow hook safety chain is a simple and effective measure.

Yea I went to Aces Hardware and bought a Trailer safety Chain. They cut about six inches off one end and left the hook on. I used that for the BOW then had them cut the other hook off and then cut the chain in half. The two 4+ lengths of chain made my two Anchor Rodes. I think it cost me about $10 bucks for the Chain and two connectors for anchors to chain connection and one NUT/ Bolt and Washer to attach Bow chain to the Trailer Winch Stand..
