I'm not 100% sure but I think the gentleman that took the boat saw it here or found it buy word mouth from someone here.

He wasn't too far from the place I had it parked at, he came down, looked at it, said he'd take it as soon as I got everything out of it. He showed up with a rollback with a huge roll of carpet, I dumped it off the trailer onto a patch of grass onto a few old tires, he layed out some carpet and winched it onto the truck and was off. It sounded to me like he was planning to fix it, I showed him how the cap came off and what to expect and he left.

All things considered, the lower hull was perfect, not so much as a chip or scratch in the bottom, the cap had a few bruises but nothing major. The worst part was that the cap and the forward section was cut to clear all the floor layers. (Just imagine, each time they added another layer, they pulled the cap off and never removed the last layer of wood)!

As much as I'd liked to have had a cross section pic of that thing cut open, I'm glad it's gone. It was at a buddies place and he really didn't want it there even as long as it was. The best part is that I got the motor and trailer out of the deal along with some other goodies, including two nice tanks, a complete fuel system, and two seats.

I wish the new owner luck, but as I said, I'm glad it's gone with no further expense. I'm sure with some work and fresh plywood and some resin it will make someone a nice boat again.

Re: Heavy boat

I figured I'd follow up on this.
I got an email with a pic of the Glastron I gave away, the new owner is well into fixing it, but the deck wasn't what I had figured it was, there were two layers of 3/4" pressure treated planking in between all that plywood, glass and carpet. He at this point has removed over 1000 lbs of old floor and wet foam.

Two layers of 1x4 PT planking, top layer front to back, lower layer side to side. These are set ontop of four front to back pt 2x4's laying flat and screwed down to the old floor. They glassed over the 2x4's, but not the planks, The front kickpanel was also built this way, on top of an existing 2x12 beneath it.
The transom was not only backed up with a 3/8" stainless plate on the outside, which I kept along with the motor, it had one on the inside, meaning that someone had to have the top off this boat to install all this, and still didn't replace the rotted wood. There was no transom wood left at all, only two stainless plates which were cut the shape of the transom wood.
I'm not sure if he plans to continue, but I do know he stripped out all the old floor and transom, the lower hull also had many gallons of trapped water from were the original floor had collapsed and turned to what looked like compost blocking the bilge drains between the compartments. The stringers are also completely gone. Either way, it gave me a good motor and a good trailer, I gave away the bare hull. I kept the steering and the tanks too.

Re: Heavy boat

Glad to see you found a home for that boat. I had a 16' Glastron tri-hull and I wish I had never sold it.

Glastron did make some solid boats back then, but somehow I just don't miss that one at all. I was pretty relieved not to have to pay by the ton to scrap it.

Who ever did that floor must have either built decks or trailers for a living, certainly not boats. One layer of that PT planking was bad enough but they did two layers. The guy said it wasn't even screwed to the boat, just set in construction adhesive atop the old carpet and glass that was beneath it.
There were several more layers of re-applied floor still beneath that.
I'm just glad that the motor and trailer were good. The motor I pulled off it was mint, perfect 145 psi compression on all four cylinders, no corrosion, and it runs like new.
I picked up a Starcraft Capri yesterday that needs a motor too, but it's pretty much rock solid. So on to the next project for now. I can lift the Starcraft myself at either end, so I feel pretty confident it's not water logged or got 9 plus inches of lumber on the deck.

Sorry, the bracket went with the fishfinder, I sold it nearly as soon as I got the boat. The boat isn't here anymore, the pic above was emailed to me by the new owner.
