Wow, definitely a project that is starting out being done right. It should last for you to pass on to your grandkids.

You are thru the woods as far as demolition and cleanup goes, a good milestone:D

It gets to be much more rewarding as the boat starts to get put back together;)

Looks like that gluvit got everywhere it needs to be and the welding looks great. Are there any voids between the pieces of aluminum or is it sealed up tight?

Are you going to keep that 35hp Johnson on her? Looks like a nice 2-stroke probably great on fuel.

Looking good so far... no wonder they call you Racingman! Wish we could get aluminium welding done for that little money over here!

Time for a looong over-due update!

I'm gonna do some tonight, and then some tomorrow or something of that nature...I have LOTS of pics to put up.

I'll try to put up everything as I have a lot to attempt to remember from the past 2 weeks or so.

First off, The Boat Is Flipped!!!! Or at least...it WAS.

And I found years and YEARS of oxidation...
oxidation.jpg

The bottom of the boat was never painted...I will repeat that, as I know there are some bad listeners in the room, the bottom of this boat...has NEVER BEEN PAINTED.

cleanunderside.jpg

Took me a long while and lots of sweat to get all that garbage off...but it's off.

And from the back...
cleanfromback.jpg

And all that work wasn't for nothing at all...this is what I was trying to accomplish...

Putting 5200 in all of the seams of the exterior of the boat, I figured Gluvit on the inside, 5200 on the outside should make this as leak proof as possible.

The front end...
5200front.jpg

And the back corners full of the 5200, looks great...
5200left.jpg

5200right.jpg

Course, it took forever and a day to dry, but hopefully it'll be worth it.

And I figured while it was drying, it would be a perfect time to get some work done on the trailer...

Since the trailer looks for the most part like it had been neglected from it's birth, I figured it was time to update it a little bit, maybe give it a little "flair" :)

First off, we had to ditch those old plastic broken garbage fenders...
oldfenders.jpg

Then grind off all the old mounting brackets nice and smooth
grindingflat.jpg

Of course have to get one of the "Artist" working. ;)
meworking.jpg

And then pull off the wheels and get to mocking up the new fenders

One of the new fenders welded on
singlefender.jpg

And both of the new fenders on...take note of the rollers too...
bothfenders.jpg

Once the fenders were on, it was time to take it home and take it all apart to prep for the paint

Just starting to lay down the primer. Using Rustoleum High Performance Primer and paint...though I should have sanded the fenders...but I'll get to that.

It's all white!!!!

Now...White just isn't my "style" to say, I like things a little more loud, a little bit more obnoxious...
firstred.jpg

So we're gonna paint it red. :)
almostred.jpg

But, I also like black, so let's make some of it that color too...

Even the axle got painted black...

And the rollers got cleaned

Just putting it all back together

Soooo...in just a few days, it went from this...

I dig it.

What do you guys think?

I still have to sand down the fenders and repaint them as they show brush marks REALLY bad.

Made a huge difference I think. Yea, the trailer won't be going under a bass boat, or some huge fishing boat but I think it looks great anyway.

More coming tomorrow, the interior of the boat is painted!

Looks really good. You were smart to get your trailer all taken care of before your boat was done. I was not that smart and had to scramble to get mine road worthy this spring (and it still isn't painted).

Fantastic job, love the trailer. When it comes to things boat related, I'm a little obsessed with red myself!

Re: Here we go, diving in, hope there's water in the pool... Just Another Tinny Rebui

Wow....loooong time since I last updated. Largely because last year was 99 degrees everyday up here, and 85 at night, so I just couldn't catch a break to get the boat painted.

Well, it's painted, along with a ton of other stuff done too...but lets start back where I left off.

Since the trailer is "mostly" done [I have to sand the fenders and repaint them, they came out VERY streaky] let's shift our focus back to the empty hull that has been sitting in storage for a long time.

Let's have a quick refresher, I left off with pics of me stripping the final paint off the hull...and once the paint is off...then comes the primer...the other primer, and then paint. So here we go!

I'll start with the interior since that's where I started when I actually did this...

zincrominterior1.jpg

zincrominterior2.jpg

Ahhh yes, the puke brown ZinChrom primer, once I started doing this, I really started to wonder what I got myself into

[we're going to skip right to paint, because I guess I forgot the "other" primer pics
intfirstcoat.jpg

It's gray!....kinda.

intfullsand.jpg

intsand.jpg

so we sand it back down and get ready to add more...

inthome.jpg

And you end up with something like this. [don't worry, there are many....m a n y more than just 2 coats on here. Painstakingly so.]

Now, for some people this would be ok, but it really lacked sheen after it was dry. so once it was back at the storage, I gave it another 2 or 3 coats.

[Ext coming up next!]

What can I say...I'm a winner like that. :D

I guess the "race" got pulled out of me for a while...maybe my car ran out of gas. ;)

I'll keep it short and simple...

Onward to the exterior!

zincrom1.jpg

zincrom2.jpg

More of that deliciously colored Primer. And see, I'm acting like I know what I'm doing with the mask on.

zincrom3.jpg

zincrom4.jpg

At this point, I though to myself, "hmmm...maybe I should just leave it like this..." Yea, that lasted for about .02 seconds. :)
