Once again, nice work RM! Hope you're feeling better and you can save the thumb! What are you covering the casting deck with?

MB

Thank You!!!

And about how I'm feeling and my chunky thumb... :D
I don't get my body...I "caught" the cold over the weekend of the 20th-21st, it manifested it self that tues, the 23rd. I attempted to "Manburger" my thumb on Sat the 27th.

Here we are on the 31st, and I'm still fighting the cold....my thumb, however, has decided to go into hyper drive repairing itself. Even though it still hurts very very badly to move it,, it looks like almost nothing more than a scratch! And I'm leaving it out in the "open air" so to speak everywhere but at work. Seriously, I don't get it.

And I'll be carpeting the casting deck floor as well, in the same as the rest of the deck....all flat pieces of wood are going to be one color, and everything vertical will be another color...anyone notice what it is??? ;)

Hey Racingman, I have been following your progress on this project for a while now and I just started grinding fiberglass in earnest yesterday on my own project. Reading about your reported injury reminded me as I was working yesterday that the project could quickly get hijacked if I let myself get distracted. I'm not saying that's what happened to you, I'm just saying there were times when I recalled the words "making manburger out of my thumb" while I was working. And for that bit of warning, I thank you. Do take care of yourself and come back and finish up.:)

Am I allowed to dig up my own thread from its grave? Haha.

After a long hiatus from not only this board, but from a lot of things boating in general, I hope I'm back for good.

This project has long been 'almost done' [is any project ever really 'done'] and tomorrow I'll take some time and upload some more of the pics once I figure out where I left off and where I need to pick up. I also need to sort through all the photos to make sure they line up in chronological order.

I'm not going to give it away, but dammit....this thing looks awesome! Any maybe, just maybe, we can move this ancient thread over to the completed projects forum!

Ok, here we go....I'm going to start with some of the pics that I've missed along the way, and some that don't really have a 'home' if you will. Here we go....first of a few updates that should pretty much bring this thing to a close. And if you have questions, PLEASE ASK! I remember pretty much every tiny little detail of what and how I did everything. And if I don't remember....I'll just go look. :)

Doing my best to trace out what's left of the transom. The metal had to stay there to keep the wood intact. Without it....it's just a bunch of tiny pieces of black, smelly wood.

As displayed here. As soon as I lifted it off, much of it stayed behind.

And there are some days where you've been working all day, and although some things got done, you feel as if you've been in a sweat lodge all day and there is nothing to show for it. Those are the days where you just say F it....and throw everything in the boat. "Look Honey....it's all back in the boat now!!!" It may not be usable....but it's there.

What to do what to do with this ugly white wagon spare wheel.....

Plasti-dip to the rescue!

And bolted up.....and that will have to do, until I get a chance to match....

.....this. Yup. I sure did go out and find 12" aluminum wheels. And yup, I know I'm a huge dork for it. And that's ok. I love the look of 5 spoke aluminum wheels. :D

Can anyone tell me what's wrong with this?! Here's a hint....it's gross! We can't have a freshly restored boat and a nasty greasy motor, so let's fix that!

Soooooo much better! Looks like new again.

And one final one showing the support beneath what will become the front seat mount. It's the same thickness that supports the main 3 seats on the primary deck. Let's get it riveted in there and drill some holes!

Forgot how long it takes to update things! Gotta resize, then upload, then link, then type....Weeeeeee. But it's all fun and good times. One more update, then I'm off to bed and I'll try to continue tomorrow.

Before my random pictures, I left off playing with the casting deck. Well, I'm sure you don't need pics of how I carpeted it, because, as I'm sure you can guess, it looks a lot like the other pieces that I did. :) So lets move forward to the next part of the process.

Before I did the final install on the Casting deck itself, I had to make sure the little tin can would float if I ever over loaded it with large women. ;) So in with the foam!

I did a little thinking ahead with how things were going to have to be wired and where it was coming from, so I left a little hole here to feed wires through. I amaze even myself sometimes! Haha.

Now, I was asked what I was going to do about attaching the floor and the framework to the hull itself. Yes, it's crude, and yes, I'm using parts left over from dis assembly. The two holes in the hull were already there. They are where the bench was attached to the hull. I took two small pieces of aluminum and a soft faced hammer and brick to get them to the right angle. I was hoping to get a harder angle instead of the curve, but it's rock solid either way. The rearward one goes right to the frame, and the forward one goes to the floor.

And what do we have here? One of the reasons for the gap in the foam maybe?

And the reason for wiring needing to get behind the foam. I got this idea late in the venture, thus the reason these lights don't match the rest of them. But I think they flow with the metal and works alright. And yes, these are lights located in the storage area. Maybe new watercraft finally have these, but if they don't, why not!?

Just a little shot of the brackets that will be holding my light and speaker board. Closer and closer every day

And lastly, before I retire for the night, just an odd shot of the leading piece of wood and the front Nav light. I was soooo happy at this point. I don't know why, but it really felt like things were coming together once I got this piece installed.

That's it for this evening. I need to go find a place to slap my head down and get some rest. I'll try to get some more posted tomorrow!

Photobucket should have a user control setting that auto-sizes pix for posting to forums. I upload them via an add-on to Firefox or drag & drop to a folder, and never re-size them.

Poke around or click the help button. When they re-did PB, to it's current format, quite a few things changed & I found it hard to edit some of the other settings when I needed to re-organize my folders.

Re-sizing isn't that much of a hassle. Especially since I found picresize.com. I can upload 20 pics and have them all re-sized at the same time. Waaaay easier than before when I was using picnik.

Either way, I've gotten home late the past 2 nights and haven't spent much time on the computer. More to come soon!!! :)
