In my line of work I have seen a several sheared keys. Mostly they are caused by a sudden and abrupt stoppage of the engine, like hitting something solid. The flywheel tries to continue to spin due to momentum after the crankshaft has stopped resulting in shear of the key. I have also seen this on a cam gear where it was not completely sheared but but enough to cause significant change in the timing of the lifters. Although not as common shearing can also be caused by faulty starters or ignitions where they rapidly kick on and off repeatedly.
I am sure that the sheared flywheel key is not the cause of no spark on cylinder 2.
If you run into major trouble, start an OB thread & link it here.
Lots of good Evinrude/Johnson fella's over there in the engine forums.
dude Sig, you have done a great job so far! and in record time...I really like the paint, and that rear bench. Did you ever figure where you were going to hinge it?
Or pick up a Merc. Sorry, Sig. I couldn't resist.![]()
