I think some of the factory transoms were done in 3 pieces like that as I've seen it before, however, I would recommend going back with 1 solid piece.

I moved this into your thread...... we try to keep all the restoration questions and topics together ;)

The splashwell can be made from old street signs (great source of aluminum) and there are really no complex bends. Take a look at the starcraft restoration index for pictures. Item 9 here http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=288451

Re: splashwell

Be creative, and you can cover most of those holes up with components.

Flush mounted rod holders, larger cleats, or pop up cleats, rod holders, VHF antenna, new nav lights, and some rubber grip pads, are all things I've used or am using to cover holes that are already there. Should only be a couple when done.

BTW NICE BOAT, and great price!

well had to reformat the camera :( , but i was able to pop the transom out in between lightening storms yesterday, after reading everyone elses post about removing transoms i think it cam out rather easily(knock on wood) took 5 minutes to get it out.

today we sprayed the inside out with PURPLE POWER soap and power washed the inside out. tommarow it is sanding the inside to get all the old glue and caulking out so i can seal it this week. where o where is that epoxy!

Biggest thing to remember is that the splash well, even though it's thin metal, adds a bunch of rigidity to the boat.
Other than that, you can do as you please. I cut mine down a BUNCH, to make more room in the boat. Basically a small splash well located right where the main motor is.....

I've since reconsidered, and might go back to a full width splash well, as this will make it easier to mount a kicker motor.

On the floor,..

I guess it depends on if you will ever need to get under it again,...

I would probably put it in in sections to be able to make any unplanned future repairs easier,...

I went with the multiple sections plan for mine as well just in case I ever need to get under any of them and just because it will be easier for me to handle. Not that I am an expert... in the middle of my first project as well. will be watching to see how you put this one back together. Good Luck!

i might try and find some more.

i was also able to get some sanding done on the inside, half of the inside of the boat done.(dang weather)

the epoxy came today so time to start on the transom, and then finish sanding the inside to seal the seams. then the outside will be the next on the list, any hints on sanding this thing? do i need to remove all the paint or just rough her up?

wish I would have seen this sooner... maybe it will still be of some use for half the hull -- I just found out from one of the other members here that you can remove that carpet glue with lacquer thinner... unfortunately I found out after I had just finished wire brushing the entire inside of my hull. I had tried lacquer thinner before I broke out the wire brush, but apparently you need to let it soak not just scrub it - take a paper towel, soak it, and slap it over a section of the hull - let it sit for 15-20 minutes (you might have to re-wet the towel). the glue should just wipe right off after that. It did in the couple tiny spots i had left on my hull where I tested this out. (credit to fishrdan for the tip)

what kind of shape is the paint in? is it flaking or cracked? can you scratch it off easily? if so, I would guess remove it completely. I would also check it over carefully for any spots where the paint is flaking to see of the metal is pitted - I am seeing small spots of that around snaps, cleats, railings, etc.

As far as the holes along the top, how about some of that no-slip stick on black stuff they sell for stairs & such? It is like a stick on black sandpaper like stuff. It's easy to work with, Just a suggestion.

Looking good.

Don't use OSB. It is not made for exterior use. HD also has some nice b/c sanded 3/4" plywood that is cabinet grade and uses exterior glue.
At least they do in Texas.
