Re: Hidden Fuse on 4.3 Tahoe Q4.. Please Help

Just happened to be examining what type of fuses i had...and needed if i wanted spares and i found a few things that might be of interest for ya.

Mine was quite the mess of wiring so i can't say for certain if the wiring went to the fuse block or not....

HOWEVER.... I did find two large plug looking things...that had a label of DELPHI FUSE with some part number about the size of a car key remote entry. So a larger inline fuse all in a snazy non-fuse looking thing. Looked a lot like one of the many different wiring harnesses up there. There were wire tags on them but i couldn't for the life of me read them. They were on some of the larger wiring that ran to the fuse block. ~8ish gauge...?

Would be worth checking...

They were right above the fuse block

Dmoss, you need to figure out if you have power going to the key switch. And if so if its leaving. I think your switch feed is dead after being that no gauges or starter. Wiring only looks intimidating until you start working with it, then its just frustrating!

Not sure what you mean by "metal tips" can you mark one of your pictures and point them out?

They are butt connectors, used to splice two wire ends together. The ones you have are also heat shrink to make them waterproof, and in your case, troubleshooting proof since you can't get a meter to the wire without punching a hole in the insulation of the connector. Which you MUST do.

The fuse you want is under the dash, follow the big red wire from the ignition switch until you find it, you may not know what you are looking for, or what it looks like, but there is something and probably with a fuse in it in that wire.

I don't know that you need to punch a hole in the connectors--looks like the wire continues to the back of the switch, where the ends are accessible. That pic is pretty blurry, I can't tell what we're looking at...

EDIT: OP, were you trying to point out the butt connectors (green plastic), the terminal ends of the wires, or something else?

The thing i'm talking about it is in the above pic one of the metal tips is on my finger... I can get a better picture today when I get off

Don

After some more trouble shooting I finally found my slave soilenoid but its the volvo with a relay. I can jump across terminals A and B like your directions say to do and the boat started. With that said whats the next step is the whole solenoid bad or just the top part of it? thanks for the help

I didn't mean to start a new thread you can delect it if you want....

It's not your solenoid. If you aren't getting power to the gauges, you aren't getting it to your ign switch. So you aren't getting it to your starter solenoid. You still haven't done any of the tests suggested.

Re: Hidden Fuse on 4.3 Tahoe Q4.. Please Help

None of the gauges respond when I turn the key. and I did have an alarm to sound when i had the key turned but no any more. and when I got to start it nothing happens. It don;t even try to roll over...

If your gauges don't work when you turn the key on, then your problem is not the start solenoid or relay or whatever you have.
You absolutely MUST find out if you have power to the ignition switch, if you have to cut the insulation off the butt connector on the red wire on the ignition switch, or punch a hole in it to get a meter on it, you have to do it. If you don't have power to the switch, nothing else is going to work.

Ok, you have power TO the switch. Turn the switch to the run position, you should have power from the switch and to the purple wires on the switch. This will power up the instruments and the ignition.

I have power coming out of the ignition in the purple wire but no power to the red and yellow wire that appears to run to the starter. Looks like I need to replace my ignition switch?

your instruments come to life ??????????????

With the switch in the run position you better not have power on the yellow/red wire.
