I forgot to mention, the slip is worth around $1100 in the deal and I do live in Granbury. The boat has been slung since new so the pontoons are very clean.

I don't know toons but it sounds like a nice one. Double check the slip agreement. I know around here (Fort Worth) most marinas stipulate in the agreement that if the owner changes, the slip is opened to the lottery and money is returned to the signer of the agreement, minus any early termination clauses. It's something like that but anyways, you may want to double check that he won't get money back and you are without a slip.

$15800 for a 4 year old 18' toon, ya that is WAY high.

I don't know your market so maybe he is in line but it seems like an awful lot.

As for the boat itself Godfrey was a good boat back then, the company was purchased by 2 lawyers from Chicago 3 years ago and you can imagine how that turned out, couldn't give me one now.
I would keep looking and see what else pops up, lots of people wanting to move boat now.

Thanks for the reply. That is a good point. I wonder if he knows the rules? Or if his intention was to just use it under his name? I imagine I'd still be in trouble come March 09 at renewal time.

Well that's too bad for Godfrey. Yeah, I hunted around the net and that is pretty darned high for that boat. Although the claim of 22 hours is super low for a 4-5 year old boat. Hardly used at all by that claim.

I priced new ones at 4 locations and, even a hail damaged 08 with a 90 HP Yamaha 4 stroke, 22 ft, (not a Bennington) cost $22k (not including taxes). Other similar ones cost $22 to 25K depending on motor size.

At Suntracker.com, going to their "Chevy" model, a 20 ft Party Barge is tagged at $13265. But that's with a 50 hp 2 stroke ELPTO engine. If you kick the engine up to a 60 hp 4 stroke EFI Bigfoot, then it jumps to $18065!
Add a trailer, ski tow bar, and a live well, and a troller, and it's up to $$20500. Then tax, $1700. So there's that magic price again.

My feeling about the Godfrey is that it's no savings. It's like a dealer price for a used boat (even though this is a guy who is moving and has to sell it). It's strictly a convenience thing with the boat slip. Assuming that's not a hassle. Good food for thought. Maybe I'll but a bid of $12000 on it.

Sounds pretty high for around here. Here's a link to one that's pretty typical here for $5800.

45ACP - that ad has been a cross-country craigslist scam for several weeks. It's been on every CL site all across the midwest. it lasts for about three seconds once it hits the board around here.

LOL - sorry about that - good thing I'm not in the market for a pontoon! Was just the first pontoon I saw on Craigslist here!

I have a 20 foot with a 75 hp force on it and I don't ski any more so I can't say for sure but I think it runs in the low 20s mph. and would pull you once your up. Its pretty light with only 4 fishing chairs and live well. What with the lakes being down for 3 seasons the upholstery got ruined and it never made it back to the water. I will probably sell it as a project. Btw. in Texas you can't register any boat with an oversized motor

Great info. Funny, but when you compare one engine to the other, 50, 60, 75, 90, the MPH are about 3-7 mph different. I guess it's more the torque and the prop type that will enhance 'pull' for skiing. But boy do those engine prices climb fast once you pass 60... Yup. I know about the limitations on HP/per boat rating. No interest in exceeding what it's rated for. Ideally, I really wanted a 115 HP, but those are really expensive. I think 90 would be fine. Sorry to hear about your ruined upholstery (sigh).

Maybe I'll get a motorcycle instead.

With regard to transfer of a boat slip in Granbury - it's no problem, as it is in Fort Worth. They just sign it over to the new owner.

Okay, that it great. I just spoke to my marina and they said it wouldn't be a problem either if it is paid out through the year and the new owner completes the application / contract as well. They have that rule because in the middle of summer when the slips are full, they don't want people selling the slips for a premium and negating the lottery system.

Re: How does this deal sound for a Pontoon

I called Fun N Sun boat store in Granbury, TX and asked if they wouldn't mind helping with a price on the boat. And they pulled out their book and sure enough it was right on the money to the website, except they said the motor is priced separately. His number matched the web's numbers for boat plus motor.

He said, "If we were to sell that boat used, we'd start it at $9,995 and work down from there. And that's assuming it's an immaculate boat!"

Of course adding $1417 for the 10 months worth of boat slip would be $11,417. (Which doesn't make that an incentive anymore.)

So, I just sent them an email offering them $11k. At least that gives me a few months of slip time incentive, and they would get the MAX price a dealer would get for it used. There you have it. If they say no, I'll just move on.

If it is worth that to you, then it is a good deal. :D Hope he takes your offer and you get a boat. Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: How does this deal sound for a Pontoon

We had some discussion (the owner and I) and Nada (as the owner noticed) is only partly accurate and gives a bit too many generalities. It doesn't get into the specifics of trailer or type, mileage on engine, and various other points. But the owner did recognize that $15,800 was pretty optimistic and was a 'fishing' price. Ultimately, we agreed on $13500 (and that includes the 10 months of slip, valued at $14000). So really $12,100 for the boat and trailer. I think, for a boating season purchase, that's probably a good deal. :)
Of course I need to test drive it yet tomorrow at 10 am. But I'm pretty secure it will run well. Now I'm trying to figure out where we are going to stow the dang trailer! Luckily our friend and neighbor's daughter has a farm an hour from here. We think that's where it will sit. (well covered of course.)
