I can't keep up, you're jumping all over the shop like a bounder.

When we find the correct values test the stator, hopefully someone will have them.
I just noticed the boatinfo library is back on line so I'll have a look there for you.

Lol well it has ran me crazy for 2 weekd.

This is where the genuine OMC manual really helps, you would have all your answers in 5 minutes but it has to be a genuine OMC for your exact model.

Would this help? I don't understand some of that but someone would.

No help those are all values for ignition, battery charging is a different system altogether.

Re: How to test a stator

If you check the brp website & drill down to your exact model can get the part number and put it into google, then pick up a link for a boats place and it will also show you the 4 Amp rating as well as every motor that particular part was made for.
That's what I did and there was hundreds of them, that's why I expect someone here will have the details.
In fact it looks like the standard stator/coils for almost every small omc motor ever made LOL, got me beat why no one has chimed in with a value yet.

I know I'm starting to loose hope in the motor.im attracted to junk for some reason.ive owned 500 boats and this one has been the hardest to fix.its normally a 20 dollar fix and I got a steal well this one has caught up to me.

Re: How to test a stator

Anyone? Or if someone has the shop book for it.

I switched to my old analog meter and it said the regulator was good. The stator is still reading around .60. Should I just replace it and get it over with? And also is this motor the kind that has to have a tac to charge?

Over 600 evinrude motors use this stator.can someone check the ohms on theirs? Part number 0582926

Test the coils properly.
http://assets.fluke.com/manuals/8060a_3vimeng0200.pdf
Zero the meter before testing.
Page 2-25 for picture and 2-26 for description.
A typical way to use the relative reference is to correct for test lead
resistance. Although test lead resistance is usually very small (typically 0.5 to
5Ω), it can be significant when measuring low resistances. To correct for it,
select the desired resistance range, short the test leads together, and press the
REL button. The REL indicator will appear and the display will read zero.
The 8060A will automatically subtract the stored test lead resistance from
subsequent measurements

What do you get?

Re: How to test a stator

If that was with the coil leads disconnected to eliminate any other sneaky feedbacks then the coils are short circuited and you will need to buy a new one.

Yes the stator wires was unhooked. But why would it read 7 volts at idle and 17 ac at rev if it's bad? I'm so lost lol

Because not every single turn of wire is short circuited.

Thank you! You have been a big help. I'm going to replace my charging coil too.it has black leaking out but they said it goes to the ignighion side on my boat.but it works.

Re: How to test a stator

With your new found resistance measuring skills you should be able to test the charge coil too.
(The 0.6 Ohms was coming from the meter leads)
The chart you put up earlier calls for 450-600 Ohms.

Then again black stuff is a worry and if you already have it apart and they are not to expensive then replacing the charge coil sounds like a good idea.

Personally I'd go for genuine OMC parts rather than aftermarket.

A good old OMC Factory Service Manual and the proper test equipment would have answered a lot of questions on this problem !! JMHO.
