Hull damage from trailer help

I didnt notice till i looked under that the front roller fromt he trailer is missing. And this is what happened to the hull :facepalm:

the rubber marks is from the roller before it split apart. I can clean that up if needed to get better pics here. However how do i repair the damage? doesnt look like the actual fiberglass is messed up just the "coating" . But you guys are the experts, please help..

wow im slow... haha here they are.. again this is the bottom of the boat where the v shape of the hull rolls on the rollers of the trailer.

Get some acetone and clean up the Black stuff so we can see the damage better. From what I can see it appears right now to just be a basic Gelcoat repair, but...until we/I can see the over all area better it just is not possible to give you a better answer.

this is more than a basic gell repair..

the glass is scarred as well.

but no worries....this is a common thing....happens every day.

you will need to add 2 layers of csm before doing the gell work.

search ....simple gellcoat repair

I hope its just a simple gel coat repair, what is csm? im a boat newbie lol

Csm is Crossed strand fiberglass mat. I would probably fill with some thickened resin, then go over it with csm to start. Sure the experts will chime in shortly. Good luck. Oh, and get a new roller :redface:

Lookin like a simple gel repair IMO.

Although being on the keel you might want to use a putty that has a little more Beef than Gel paste ( fiberglass filler ).

A little repair searching on Iboats and you are all set .

I'd use a dremel to clean it all out and feather the edges of the gelcoat. Wash down with acetone and Then I'd use some of this..

to fill the area, leaving it a little shallow. I'd then mix up some thickened Gelcoat paste to bring it up past flush. Then sand down to flush sanding all the way to 1500 grit then buff and polish. You'll never know it was there.

I agree on the simple gelcoat repair. The damage area is a bit more than the supplies of a basic repair kit, so maybe get an extra small can of gelcoat. (West Marine or similar store)

while that kit MIGHT work....

i dont know if it has enough gell to do the repair.

the actual repair area will be somewhat larger than the damage it self.

if you are not worried about the color.....and say white is white. (due to the damage being on the bottom of the hull)

a standard can of white unwaxed gellcoat for about 16 dollars will be just fine.

when you do the repair you will have to grind the gellcoat around the area...this will make the reapir area larger. i still think the glass will be indented or scarred. but you wont know for sure untill you grind it.....look for scars or cracks in the fiberglass......they will be evident when you grind it.

That plus a small can of plain white gelcoat and you should be good to go. The Evercoat kit has all the color mixings, etc. Since you are doing a fairly long area, you also may need some clear plastic - like a book report cover that you would get in a school supplies store.

I agree .. grind out the bad/damaged glass and post up some pics.

But just grind out the bad stuff and post pics .. no need to make a 2" repair into a 6" repair.
