Re: Huricane deck boat sunk I need to know why, please help

In the begining the boat would get heavy and stand straight up at full throttle and level out eventually and work fine for hours on the lake, I figured i was just doing something wrong,,

The only thing wrong is a big ole' leak in your boat from what I can tell. I would put in on a trailer and back it into the water. You are bound to find the leak as it doesn't sound like it's small. It really does sound EXACTLY like leaving the plug out of the boat. Once you get the boat moving the water is likely draining back out whatever hole exists just like the drain plug will if your boat is full of water.

Re: Huricane deck boat sunk I need to know why, please help

A neighbor recently had his older Hurricane deckboat sink at his dock. It was determined to be a broken hose to the bait well. That's probably where those two extra holes in your stern lead to. In my prior Hurricane, 2009 model, the bait well was in the front deck (suggesting that's a lotta two hoses running thru the bilge).

Another neighbor has a older Hurricane which is not self bailing so anything that hits the deck goes to the bilge, however I would suspect it's your live/bait well hoses cracked or broken.

Re: Huricane deck boat sunk I need to know why, please help

I remember one time i used the boat and towed it home without removeing the plug the thing was so heavy my tires were scrubbing the fenders thats when i learned that i was suppose to drain it,,

Well it's true you are supposed to drain it but more important you are supposed to maintain and operate it so water doesn't get in there in the first place. what you drain should be minimal.

And if you (or your seller) left a load of water in there for any length of time, you may have damaged the hull and floatation. Not automatically but very possibly.

As others said, everything points to those live well hoses being broken somewhere up the line.

my livewell is also in the front of the deck ,, So does this mean one is for filling and one is for draining?

... It would stand straight up when full throttle was on and wouldn't go anywhere very fast, slowly it would trim itself out and drive correctly, ...

You did trim DOWN whenever you stopped! ??
Sounds a lot like trying to start with UP trim.

Odd that filling the boat did not produce any water getting out. A leak big enough to let that much water in should let water out.

As far as the bilge pump not working, since the boat set out, take a good look at fuse holders and switch connections for corrosion before changing anything. I need to clean the fuse holder for my livewell pump as I have to wiggle the fuse cap for it to come on.

You likely have 2 pumps, livewell and bilge. Could be you turned on the livewell pump thinking it was the Bilge pump, making the problem worse. Mine were actually labeled wrong when I bought the current boat.

Normally a through wall fitting on the aft side area of the baot is for the bilge pump output. Do you have a built in fuel tank? If so the other is likely the tank vent.

Bilge pumps can be wired different ways. Manual, auto or both. An auto bilge pump will have a float near it to turn it on when the level gets too high.

Didn't see anyone answer your question about stern anchoring. It just what it sounds like, setting an anchor with the anchor rope tied to the stern instead of the bow. If the boat sits lower in the back (as many do) and the stern is tied to the anchor, it can't ride up and can take water over the top from waves.

I suppose there are three "holes" in the rear. One for the plug and the other two for in and out of the baitwell. If you're on a trailer...what I'd do is... plug the two holes...squirt some water into both the baitwell drain and fill tube and see where it goes. If it some of it drains into the bilge you have a leaky hose.

You need to make sure that your transom isn't rotted and allowing water in. Inspect the drain tube by pulling the plug out and see if it moves, even just a little. Do the same for those two "extra thru-hulls" you've described (be best to post up a picture or two of your boat and then of that area...include the whole stern if you can). Had your boat been sitting in the water before you took off, or this happen immediately after you launched it from a trailer? If it was, in fact, in the water, had it been raining at any point before you took of in it?
Is there any chance it had the plug in while on the trailer and got rained on? I'm asking these questions because if the boat had filled will some water, you might not have noticed it above deck, and that extra weight upon take-off allowed those through-hulls to go under the water, when they normally wouldn't be. A lot of water weight can build up before you know it. By running it with the nose up, that could've also kept those through-hulls underwater, coupled with the amount of water than comes over the stern when stopping abruptly, it all adds up quickly.

OK that's enough. You have to post pictures or descriptions that are useful. I'm beginning to have my doubts here.

On the first pic, your bottom hole in the transom is very, very concerning... I'm betting your transom has the consistency of a sea sponge. It looks like there is a sizeable gap in between the outlet of whatever that is, and the edge of the transom.

I'm seeing the same thing, on both that bottom hole and what appears to be the splashwell drain. Those fittings appear totally unbedded, and look like they allow water right into the transom core. All that brown streaking looks like water dripping out of saturated and rotton transom wood to me.
