Agreed. My Canvas shop in Englewood was never busier than after hurricane Charley hit Pt Charlotte in '04. An added bonus was it took some people a year or more to settle their insurance claims. So a year later I was still getting business from the hurricane. I wouldn't wish it on anyone but hey, bad for them good for me.

Yo YD I agree with you 100% about deaths caused by Andrew being grossly under reported. In addition to illegals & the homeless, alotta scores got settled in Liberty City that night. Though Katrina might be the winner in that particular category.

Hope y'all got the power on'n are makin' out okay up there. Hang tough.

Those of Down there Know .. and you might be right about Katrina .. I was not down there.

I know they always undercount these things due to proper "handling". .. Again you might be right.

To those currently in the Zone as I call it please be safe and warm. Gather up. Heat/water/food/shelter.

I have been reading stories of some select groups that cant get their stories/pics/vids out to the public.

Those must be the po' folk seeing chandeliers twinkling in big houses up the hill across the street. While they remain in the dark ... No I doubt you'll be allowed to hear much from them.

Careful on the conspiracy theories ... they boarder very close to the political, and you know what we will do if this goes that way just a little.

Yeah, I see two in a row right above your post and there are others in this thread too.

... like there was no one else that survived or was around when hurricane Andrew hit... and the media ignores hardships and injustice (I'm pretty sure that's what they make their living off of)

for before and after scenes, move your mouse pointer over the pictures .... truly remarkable

Yeah never underestimate the power of Mother Nature. That new cut where the bridge used to be is most telling. I say leave it there.

On the bright side if Sandy hadn't been moving as fast as she was, and/or had a higher sustained windspeed. Y'all woulda really been screwed. What did the shoreline in was the high tide'n storm surge coinciding.

Hope you get back to some level of normalcy soon.

Uhh ... what?! Forgive me but I fail to see the conspiratorial/political link. Are you paranoid?

Without going into any great detail, just stating a fact, please note that Wall Street had their power back on far before anybody else ...

I think the top one shows a fire that took out dozens of houses?

interesting to see all the "floating" piers rearranged, some with boats attached. It's a convenient method for fair-weather boaters but not the best system if you want something permanent.

inlets open and close. go back to maps from the 1800's (and earlier) and locate them; trace forward through the years. they will return.

I lived in that neighborhood as a kid every Summer........ those houses started out as tents and shanty's then they were consisitantly up-graded and turned into year round homes...... some were built only 2 feet apart. Very sad and it breaks my heart to see an area where I grew up destroyed. Our old Summer home was not hurt.
