New to me motor, ns30a4,. I want to add a hydrofoil stabilizer. The motor has holes where previous owner may of had one mounted but decided to remove it. I'd like to go with the same one cause i don't want to make extra holes. I have no clue what was on there and can't get of hold of po. The holes are 4" apart at center measuring from hole to hole on same side.
They are 3.75 inches apart at center going across trim tab. ANy ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I can't tell you which one it is; but I can help eliminate a couple.

The Doel Fin and basic Stingray use the same holes and they are only like 2-1/2 inches apart.

I suspect whatever was on there was BIG. :faint2:

Made a trip to sporting store, they had a stingray jr which the holes on the same side measured 3.75" (on center) apart. I should of measured the larger one also:facepalm: looks like I'm going back....anyone need anything?

The one on mine (Attwood, I think) is two separate pieces.

EDIT: Yep, it's an Attwood and the holes are 4" from each other on each side. Attwood Hydro-Stabilizer 9400-7 - iboats Mine appear to be installed backwards.

The designer of your boat did so no hydrofoil was needed. If there is a problem a hydrofoil may mask it but not fix it. Not fixing might come back and bite in the end. he may also have had a "Happy Troller" or similar device instead of a hydrofoil.

That's what I was thinking you already have holes a few more will not hurt buy what you like. Once you have the new one on will not see the old holes anyhow..

Yup indeed. I went out and measured a " Fish- On " brand trolling plate that I have and the bolt spacing is 4" on center front to back, and 3 3/4" side to side.

The troller I have is just like this.. PO might have thought he did not want to spend another $30-40 on another ( regular retail price is around that )

If that were true the foil would never have been invented. Truth is that back in the day they weren't needed because the Naval Architects of the day designed hulls for "performance". Today that word just means speed, and that's why foils have become so popular.

I would run the boat and see if you really need a hyrdo. Also your pics do not show the vent plate to bottom of boat.???

If the problem goes away after the installation of a hydrofoil, then the problem IS fixed.

Re: Hydrofoil question..which one goes here?

Not "fixed" but rather "compensated for"
In almost all cases, that would be functionally the same thing. They have limitations, but within those limitations I can't see a need to worry that the problem isn't "fixed." A hydrofoil isn't going to overcome saturated flotation foam, for example.
