Got the second coat onto the boxes today and one interior coat. Quite frankly, there may be LESS orange peel on the boxes from using the roll/roll method than there was on the hull using the spray gun. And that's with "thick" latex porch paint and not enamel. :noidea:

I started to change out the blades on my scroll saw so that I could do some metal cutting but my hands are shaking so badly (from the octupled Prednisone dose  ) that I just had to stop or I'd end up breaking something.

I'll have to wait for the boy, or maybe my wife, to give me a hand. :mad-new:

I'm finally getting to do some fun stuff! You'll "C" what I mean below! :tongue-new:

Yesterday I set up my scroll saw workspace. I used the spray adhesive to glue the printed logo onto the 1/8" aluminum stock.

And this evening before dinner the boy and I went out and figured out how to switch to pinless scroll saw blades and I was able to get to work!

That just about brought tears to my eyes buddy, I first worked on a scroll saw a little over 50 years ago and I remember breaking blades and after two or three, I can't quite remember, I had a thought flow through my head and I hear my Dad, say...

"Son, you have to let the blade do the work!"

It just reminded me, my Father did tell me those days would come.

I am really looking forward to seeing the splash of this boat.

Thank you.

Not much done this morning.

I was working with the scroll saw, happily cutting parts and breaking blades  when I got a text from my ol' buddy asking me to bring his tree stand out to the woods for him. The check stand where he hunts had a guy bring out a 200 pound hog and he wanted to get his turn!

So I interrupted my boat efforts and fired up the truck. Maybe I can get back to cutting parts this evening when things cool down. Maybe.

BTW - I switched to a thicker 25 TPI universal saw blade and that seems to work better than the 30 TPI metal cutting blade that I was using before. The 30 TPI blade was very thin and fragile.

AND - I double checked the paint on the storage boxes and the roll/roll method, while good, still doesn't match the quality of the spray gun paint job.

Yah, memories are awesome. And I was surprised to hear that the boy actually remembered something I'd taught him!

Splash... man, I'm hoping to make it by the end of this year.

BWR,

It is amazing what we remember that our parents told us long and ago and in 50 years your children will be doing something and remember what you told and taught them.

Now that Dad and Mom are gone, it is amazing what floats through my head when I am involved in doing something.

Today I only broke ONE blade! Got greedy on the final turn of the final cut. D'oh.

But I did this! :D

Now to find my rat-tail and triangle files. They've gotta be around here somewhere, right? :noidea:

Yah! I was inspired by the SC Logo on a new boat, like the one below. Still have to do the fine work to smooth things out a bit. :joyous:

Am thinking that I may give the boy a chance to do some scroll saw work. We'll see.

What are you going to use to put them on? I would recommend the 3M emblem tape that the auto companies us, that stuff holds up great and you can now get it in the thinner versions so the letters don't stick out off the surface.

Good question! I'd actually considered contacting Starcraft to see what they use.

I'll have to research that emblem tape too. :joyous:

Researching tape for the letters.

This stuff looks promising. Very thin and good reviews.

It is good stuff, I use it on a lot of different things I do and it was how I used to affix the logos on RV's when I had to remove them for paint or body work, lasts a long time.

Just make sure you place it where you want it the first time, cause it is very difficult to remove and it is no good the second time.

I was going to paint the wood box pieces today but my paint had thickened up a bit.

So I hung some redneck wall insulation and got ready to cut some letters!

I still have plenty of fine trim work to do on the letters but hey, they're done! :D

NOTE TO ANYONE CONSIDERING CUTTING ALUMINUM LETTERS:

The 1/8" stock I used was what I had on hand but is honestly too thick for this application. I'd say 1/16" or 3/32" tops would be best.

I'll be doing quite a bit of filing down and shaping in order to make the letters and logo look "natural" on the hull. :)
